I will give you an hour class in which I am going to explain briefly the rhythms of flamenco, all by playing a box drum. In order to understand flamenco it is mandatory to know the rhythm, as it is the base of this art. This course will take place in the studios of a flamenco school where I usually work :) If the weather allows us, before the class we will enjoy a conversation about history of flamenco in a great terrace (just upstairs!), with a drink and some snacks. If it's too hot, cold or rainy, we will go somewhere else! Want to know about flamenco? Come and ask!
I'm Mariano, a box drum player from Jerez. I arrived in Seville when I was 19 to study Philosophy and a PhD of Flamenco. Since then I've been working in the flamenco world, and now I would like to share all this experience and knowledge with you. My colleague Jose, a professional drummer too will give you all the info you could need to learn and practice at home. Do not hesitate to ask anything, we are here for your learning :)
A drink and some snacks
We will meet at a flamenco school in Calle Peral, 49 in Alameda de Hércules, my neighborhood, a place full of live and history. The school has been opened for more than 20 years and I work with them from time to time. Go upstairs! Meet the staff at the office, they will help you if you need any info related to flamenco going on during your stay or anything else, do not hesitate to ask! They are nice and welcoming people :)
You can bring your camera and even record the last few minutes of the class. I will also give you a program of activities related to flamenco going on during your stay. Please be on time!
