A visit to our exhibit tries to re-construct aspects of the quinta as it was in the early 20th century. We have collected old items and antiques and put them on display to give visitors the best sense of what rural Portugal might have looked like decades ago. A tour of the museum showcases videos explaining the history and context of agriculture in greater detail. The tour is conducted by Joao Pereira who is also happy to answer questions.
I have researched the economic history of rural Portugal through original documents relating first-hand of traditional practices and everyday life on old farms. I have studied private archives to compile a portrait of life in northern Portugal's Beira from the 1600s to the 20th century. The result is a presentation I have created describing life on the farm and agriculture as it was practiced over hundreds of years.
The experience will take place inside the "mini-museum" and on the grounds at Quinta da Alvarinheira.
