The first half of the day is abseiling, starting with a 5 metre high cliff and building up to 30 metre high cliffs during the morning.
After lunch, it's a scenic 20 minute walk to the start of the canyon. You wade into the creek that descends into the narrow slot-like canyon and within a few seconds you are jumping into a rock pool, the first of several jumps and swims. This canyon is an exciting affair with water jumps, exhilarating swims, waterslides and fantastic scenery.
The final abseil out of the canyon is one of the best waterfall abseils in the mountains. Clip into the rope, step back and follow the 30 metre waterfall down to the deep rock pool below. This is not just a brilliant waterfall abseil but also a fantastic photo opportunity.
The dedicated team of Hosts behind High and Wild Adventures are myself, Darren, Tim, or Richard. We are a core group of keen outdoor adventurists. We have over a 150 years experience of adventuring here in the Blue Mountains. Our training takes two years, then our staff are mentored to becoming a lead guide. This usually takes a further year to complete. After booking, I will let you know who your certified guide (Host) will be.
Other things to note
For Canyoning bring running shoes you can get wet, swimsuit, a bottle of water and a waterproof camera. If you don’t have one I can supply a waterproof camera free of charge. Also please let me know of any dietary requirements.

I am a keen outdoor adventurist - rock climbing, canyoning & bike riding have been my passion for many years. I've also spent 8 years working in Latin America as an Aid Worker.

Meet in Katoomba and we'll take care of the rest. Our building is located 5-minutes walk from Katoomba Train Station and there is free all-day parking at the back of the building.
Empress Canyon is in the upper Blue Mountains National Park.

This was a stunning trip! Abseiling was an amazing activity. Totally thrilling and rewarding. Both our guides, Ben and Arnaud, did an amazing job talking us through the activities. Felt completely safe even when abseiling 30 metres off a cliff! If you are reasonably fit and healthy, this has to be the best tour for you in the Blue Mountains! Absolutely loved it!

This experience was incredible!! Highly recommend to people after some fun & adrenaline! The guides were amazing - they gave us all a great insight into the history of the canyon, were very conscious of everyone in the group and made everyone feel comfortable.

I don’t think there is anything that I could say to describe how incredible this tour was! I had booked spots for myself and my wildly adventurous partner for her birthday but was absolutely dreading it due to my fear of heights. I don’t think I would have gotten through the day if it weren’t for our guides Narissa and Luke. From the very beginning of the day, Narissa radiated such warmth and care, and to see both Narissa and Luke navigate the anxieties of those tackling fears that day, was honestly one of the highlights of my day. The support was extraordinary. We had an absolute blast! My partner is still calling it the best birthday present 3 days on. We had the best time getting to know each other in the group and lunch definitely hit the spot! Booking process was super easy and no trouble at all. Aidan so kindly, even let me reschedule my booking which was so appreciated. Thanks so much guys for an unforgettable experience!

My partner and I had a fantastic time yesterday, and the sandwich was fantastic. We had no idea what to expect with the canyoning and it was beyond stunning (and I’ll admit a bit terrifying too).
Tim and Katie were great guides, very friendly, considerate and patient - they were able to calmly talk me through abseiling over the edge of multiple cliffs . That’s a big deal!!
The location was out of this world, and that’s what makes it so terrifying/thrilling. I would highly recommend this tour!
