Take a walk with us! Ward's Island is a vibrant, unique Toronto neighbourhood situated in the Toronto Island Park. Our year-round community of 650 people is car free, and store-free, yet only a 10 minute ferry ride from Toronto's downtown core. Join two long-time Island residents for a 90-minute guided walk through this community. You'll see cottage-like homes and gardens, sandy beaches, wild areas and our charming village square. Learn about the Island's rich history – from its days as healing ground for Indigenous peoples to a resort community and summer playground. Today, you'll see a thriving, creative community of people living a unique way-of-life in the lush, green Toronto Island Park. Tours for between 1 and 10 people are offered on Tuesdays in June and Wednesdays in July through September. For groups of 11 or more, contact us directly to discuss group rates, your group's interests and to set a time and date. Make a day of it! After the walk enjoy lunch or a drink at The Island Cafe or The Riviera, both located within minutes of the Ward's Island ferry dock or explore by walking to Centre Island or Hanlan's Point. Ferries to the city run from both places.
Susan Roy and Linda Rosenbaum have lived on the Island for more than 30 years and raised families here. We love the Island, are active community members, and enjoy talking about our community's rich history and unusual lifestyle. We designed the tour to share real stories and insider's knowledge about the Island, believing no one is better suited to the job than longtime residents!
