We appreciate hearing feedback from all our guests and feel terribly that you did not have an enjoyable experience. That being said, we've been renting and spending time in our place for more than 20 years and have never had complaints akin to this review. I'd like to quickly address the three issues above to clarify:
1. Mold - The climate in Nantucket is incredibly humid in the summer, and our caretaker reports that this summer has been worse than any in recent memory. As you'll find with all properties near the ocean, this leads to a scent of dampness on the ground floor, not mold.
2. Broken Door - As soon as Denise raised this concern, we had a repairman come and try to replace it as soon as possible. The nature of island living is such that when something like a door needs to be special ordered, it takes time. In the meantime, the repairman did his best to provide a solution.
3. Hot Water - As with all island properties, the hot water is limited to what the individual tank can heat. Denise told us there were two families, many of them teenagers taking long showers, so eventually the hot water was bound to run out.
4. Water Quality – We have never encountered an issue with water quality in Madaket nor have we received any specific notification by the town that one exists. To our knowledge, no one has ever become ill from drinking the tap water, that includes my own family. That said, we will certainly check into this.
While new to Airbnb, we were shocked to hear such negative things about our long-time summer residence as we try to be as transparent as possible. Even today, I received an email from our current guest (someone who had been back each year for more than 10 years), “Condo looks lovely by the way with all new furniture and rug.”
If you have any concerns before renting, please feel free to reach out and we will happily provide as much information as needed.
