The Old Stables have been lovingly converted into a rustic holiday cottage filled with charm.
There are two bedroom suites each having a comfortable double bedroom and en-suite. Both bedrooms also have a mezzanine sleeping platform with two single beds ideal for children (6 +) to sleep in.
The cottage has also been designed to accommodate guests with limited mobility. One of the bedrooms, the living areas and garden are all on one level with a wet room suitable for those with limited mobility.
Natural wood from a local saw mill has been used throughout the cottage which makes you feel in touch with the beautiful natural surroundings. The oak used for the bath stand and kitchen worktop came from a tree felled at Herstmonceux Castle. The railings to the mezzanine platforms have been made from natural timbers (which were cut from our land), so it feels like the kids are sleeping in a tree house.
The property has been reconstructed using reclaimed materials in many areas. Reclaimed agricultural implements have been up-cycled into chandeliers. The old water trough and hay feeder from a local stable have been up-cycled into the kitchen sink and wine rack!
The cottage has a private garden with a courtyard surrounded by reclaimed sea defence timbers from the Sussex coast near here. This has created an intimate out door dining area.
The private garden has wild cherry trees, a peach tree and apple trees as well as a well stocked herb bed for you to cook from. The garden is south facing, receives great sunlight and has a shady nook with decking and seating for those seeking shelter from the midday sun.
Great care and attention to detail has been taken in all aspects of the renovation of this beautiful old farm building creating a calming and comfortable place to stay.
I can arrange pampering sessions and massages for you via a local holistic massage therapist who offers a range of treatments and could provide these in the comfort of the Old Stable during your trip. Prior booking would be required.
There is a private garden for the guests. The property is adjacent to Selwyns Woods which is ancient woodland run by the Sussex Wildlife Trust and is open to the public. Beautiful walks around the wood which consists mainly of beech, oak, hazel, chestnut and an area of open heathland, take about 30 minutes.
There is plenty of parking for cars in the communal driveway.
