This is a DRY cabin. It is perfect for back packers or the adventurous type. It has a bed and heat and a roof. Patrons will have access to a bath house that contains toilet and shower.
We were excited to have a rustic experience in this 'Dry Cabin' near Seward, based on the listing we were not expecting to have much in the way of amenities. For us the most important things were; safety and a dry living environment. Based on the posting this should have been n…
This was our first negative experience with a guest and it was unfortunate. When our guests arrived they were not please with their accommodations, feeling that we misrepresented the space they were staying in and wanted to know how we would handle it and if we would give them a lower rate. We acknowledged that during our recent re-model, a few items had not been finalized in their unit that had been originally listed on-line and offered to upgrade them to a room that was worth twice as much, and include a kitchen and bathroom that their previous room did not come with. We offered this instead of lowering the price. Together we went down their list of complaints and confirmed this upgraded unit met all of the needs they were concerned about. However the guest did not want to move to the more elaborate space. Again they asked for a discount. Again we informed them that the rate was the rate, but we again were willing to upgrade them at no charge. The guest then asked if they could modify their reservation to only stay the one night and if they would be charged by Air B&B. We informed them that we had never had anyone cancel, change or be unhappy with their reservation, so we would check on how to handle their change request. We agreed and processed the date change. Again they requested a discounted rate for the one night. This experience made us feel as if the guests were trying to get the cheapest deal possible. No matter how we tried to address their concerns, all they wanted was a discount off their room. If their "concerns" had really been concerns, they would have gladly taken the next available unit. But by choosing to stay in the original unit, it shows that their concerns were not as important as getting that cheaper rate that sought . It was as if this customer had booked this space with the intentions of trying to find something wrong with it because they could not afford the rate.
When we booked this place, we weren't expecting much. It's a dry cabin and Seward has a major lack of availible Airbnb's. We're fine living roughly and a tiny dry cabin wouldn't be a problem. The smell of this place, however, was terrible! We honestly thought about staying at a h…
Corinna, I apologize that this experience is not what you expected. We are a no smoking facility, but that does not mean that like in many "smoke-free" hotels you could have stayed at people do it anyway. We address the issues when they occur. If you had chosen to notify anyone that you were uncomfortable with the accommodations, we would have attempted to move you, but you didn't. Please note that things like a microwave and fridge are in no way advertised for this dry cabin, so none should be expected. We are slowly adding to the accommodations items like the microwave to continue improving guests quality of stay, but as stated before in no way did you pay for these items as they are not listed with this unit. And finally we advertise as a come and go as you please type establishment. Keys are left in the doors for when you arrive and are left on the table within when you leave. The goal here is to not hover over people, but instead allow them to enjoy this tranquil Alaskan space as they please. I go out of my way to greet guests when they arrive, but leave them be otherwise UNLESS NOTIFIED BY THE GUEST that they are in need of something or there is an issue. As stated with the confirmation email sent to you and on our website, we are not a hotel nor a resort, but a quiet place to stay when visiting our fabulous town of Seward. We hope that you were able to enjoy the rest of your trip and had many amazing experiences in this great state. Best wishes in your future travels.
