Eclipse 100% Totality in the mountains. Book now.
My comfortable, rustic, private cabin apartment on 31/2 wooded acres with open western exposure to the mountains and sunsets is just the place for a relaxing stay only minutes from Highland's shops, gourmet restaurants, scenic waterfalls, Zip Line at Highlands Aerial Park, Sky Valley with public Golf Course, and more. It is in perfect view for Total Eclipse on August 21, 2017.
This secluded mountain cabin is on 3 1/3 wooded acres with mountain view from front balcony in Scaly Mountain, 20 min. from Highlands. The landscaping includes natural wooded areas and wildflower gardens, and a 3' pond with waterfall. The custom designed cabin built with natural cedar inside and out by owner’s architect father was built in 1981 and features 2 levels with separate entrances. The main floor includes an open kitchen adjacent to a small dining area which looks out to a spacious great room with large windows spanning the entire length of the house. The windows provide lots of natural light and beautiful view of the mountain scenery. A wood-burning stove on stone hearth takes the chill off of cool mountain evenings with an ample supply of wood out back for fires. The bedroom upstairs has a queen bed and the small couch opens up to a single bed in the living room. The great room opens onto a balcony that extends the full length of the cabin, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the mountain air and spectacular view to the west with beautiful sunsets over the mountain range. To the front and east are many trees with the feeling of being in a tree house. There is a covered side porch with table, chairs and a porch swing.
Down steps to the lower level to a beautiful wood deck with umbrella table, you enter a private efficiency apartment comprised of a living area with satellite TV, small counter area with sink, small fridge, dining table, comfy reading chair and a full-sized futon couch/bed for lounging or sleeping 1 or a cozy-2 . Down a short hallway there is a full bath with shower and a bedroom with a comfortable queen bed. Note: The apartment accommodates 3 people if one can sleep on the Futon couch.
Phone and Wi-Fi are available throughout the house on both levels (cell phone coverage is sketchy at best).
There is a washing machine and dryer upstairs for guest use and plenty of sheets, pillows and towels. On the side deck upstairs, there is a gas grill which guests may use as well. A small refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven and coffee pot offer you the flexibility of dining at home or at one of the many incredible restaurants in the area. No air conditioning is necessary because of the cool summer temperatures. Enjoy the birds from the deck in the morning and the lovely sunset in the evening with a nice glass of wine or tea. There is a path in the woods for guests to enjoy.
Unless the entire house is rented, I live in the upstairs and will be around to assist visitors with information about the area making suggestions for restaurants or hiking trails. If desired, there will be a nice breakfast each morning for guests at their request. I enjoy interacting with guests but also respect their privacy if they wish to keep to their selves.
The area is a wonderful place to visit with many different kinds of places to see and experiences from the high-end shops, antiques, and restaurants of Highlands and Cashiers to fun outdoor adventures like Zip line tours at Highlands Aerial Park, waterfall and mountain top hikes, canoeing, rafting, tennis, golf, trout fishing and horseback riding. You will love the diversity of the area and scenic beauty of our mountain paradise. Make reservations early for Total Eclipse of the sun on August 21, 2017. Scaly Mtn. lies in the "path of Totality" which allows for 2-5 minutes of darkness around 2:30 - 2:45 p.m.
Please communicate about your time of arrival. You should attempt to be here before 8 p.m. The house is much easier to find during daylight hours so earlier is better. Please follow the directions that I send, as GPS does not always get you here.
There is a fan and heater available in the bedroom, but please turn it off when you leave.
If possible, I would love to fix you a breakfast at least one morning if you would like. If so, please tell me if you have any allergies ahead of time. I have a cat but he does not go into the apartment, though there have been cats there in the past, in case you have severe allergies.
Please strip beds and leave sheets and towels in a pile in front room when you leave. I appreciate if you would wash any dishes you use.
Quiet hours are after 11 p.m.
I am a retired Massage Therapist (17 years), also Graphic Arts, Potter and teacher in past lives. I love the out-of doors, gardening, tennis, kayaking, camping, yoga and exploring. I am a young 68 and keep in the best shape I can healthwise. I enjoy cooking, (and eating good, healthy food, of all varieties), a glass of wine while looking out at a beautiful sunset, listening to music, reading, watching the birds, and playing with my cat. I love meeting new people and learning new things, and am somewhat of a news junky.
I will very much enjoy meeting my guests, sharing a special hors doeurve and a delicious breakfast on the deck.
I am extremely blessed to be able to live in Orlando Florida in the winter and North Carolina in the summer in the house that my father, an architect, designed, built, and lived happily with my Mom for 6 months out of the year.
