One of two refurbished stone-built cottages, which are dog friendly, with our own field to enjoy, with views of Mam Tor and Lose Hill. Modern fittings (including Smart TV and high speed wi-fi) set within original features all in the grounds of Speedwell House. We are just a very short walk away, 1 minute, from the many facilities in Castleton.
You will also find our other cottage, the Stable, on AirBnb - the Barns are romantic for 2 and cosy for 4.

Speedwell Barn sits in the grounds of Speedwell House and we are dog friendly (we do make a small one off charge of £10 for your dog which is payable on arrival). It is a former working barn which has been transformed into a cosy cottage. Old features retained in the renovation include the internal stone wall and wooden lintels and mirrors made from roof joists along with doors hand made from the old pine floor from a local mill.
On the ground floor is a lounge area with double sofa bed and the hand made kitchen and dining area. The main shower room is also on the ground floor. There is a large stable door which leads out on to the patio area with the field beyond and views of Mam Tor and Lose Hill
The bedroom is accessed by a spiral staircase leading up to the mezzanine floor with plenty of storage and a cloakroom toilet

Guests have the cottage to themselves. They also have use of a laundry room across the carpark with a washing machine and tumble dryer. There is a half acre field for picnics or to walk the dog along with a private footpath next to Peakshole Water. Please note there is one only allocated car parking space for the Barn which is directly opposite just a few metres away.

Castleton is a small Medieval village steeped in history. It is a tourist centre with 6 pubs, a restaurant, a number of tea shops, a medieval castle and 4 exciting caverns to explore, many enjoyable walks and all overlooked by Mother Hill - Mam Tor

Mark and Hilary purchased Speedwell House in 2014 and renovated it with the help of local craftsmen. Having built up a successful B&B business in the house we then took on the renovation of 2 barns . We tried to retain much of the original buildings and character and any artefacts we discovered in the renovation and pictures of the renovation works can be seen on our website. We have 4 children and 5 Grandchildren and Dexter the dog who likes to welcome guests old and new. We enjoy the many walks available in and around Castleton and the Peak District and are more than happy to give advice and guidance on where to go and what to do We hope all our guests, whether in the B&B or in the self catering barns, relax and unwind and enjoy all the beautiful surrounding countryside and when they leave feel fully refreshed
