Where We Are
Our back yard - Chequamegon Bay
Our region is a peaceable place; luxurious wild spaces and a fresh environment. A few minutes on or in the waters of Chequamegon Bay is a fine summer cool down leaving you refreshed and maybe shivering with goose bumps. While you may hear most about the Apostle Islands National Lake shore, many other treasures -forests, waters, wildlife refuge, etc.- have been preserved and are available for you to enjoy.
We are home to many creative artists, harvest festivals and participatory sport events such as The WhistleStop Marathon, swimming, biking, in-line racing, kayaking, skiing, sailing, boating, dog sledding as well as traditional fishing and hunting, and snowmobiling.

There is always something to learn here. The Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center gives a terrific introduction to our past and our environment. Many persons give lectures and meetings to share their special subjects from stewardship of the environment and sustainable food and agriculture, to health care and social issues, crafts and special local features of the lands and waters and their inhabitants. A delightful example is the Bird and Nature Festival that occurs during the birds' migratory season.

The communities on Chequamegon Bay: Cities of ASHLAND, WASHBURN, BAYFIELD, and the Ojibwa Red Cliff and Bad River Reservations, round out life with good colleges, historic districts, indigenous cultures. music festivals, theaters and a hospital.

We are outside of downtown Ashland so it generally very quiet and relaxing.

I am a former licensed administrator of adult foster care homes. I worked primarily with adult's with psychiatric disorders. I have also worked in hospice care. I am now retired from that profession after 10 years of service. Operating a live in 1950's Historic Motel is quite a unique opportunity that can really be fun and hard work at the same time. However growing up in a small rural town in the upper mid west. You learn to enjoy your days no matter the task. I have lived on the shore of the big lake for almost 10 years now. It's what draws us all here if even for fleeting moment. I have been in its trance since first sight. It is true pleasure sharing my favorite things about the lake and surrounding area. Rich in native American culture and folk lore of the lake. If you should have a question I am more then happy to guide you to the answers we seek.
