Penguin Palace at Ke Ti Moana (to the sea) is located right near the tidal estuary in the settlement of Surat Bay. Set in the rainforest, surrounded by native bush and just a stones throw to the sea, this is a unique location to stay. There is an abundant amount of birdlife and wildlife including sea lions. Close to all of the Catlins scenic highlights including Kaka Point, Nugget Point, Cannibal Bay and multiple waterfalls, this is the perfect place to base yourself for your Catlins stay

Be greeted on arrival with the sound of birdlife and enjoy a relaxing and peaceful stay in the heart of the Catlins, surrounded by native bush. Stay in your own private room in one of the three historic cabins located on the property. Enjoy hospitality from your hosts, with meals available, or cook your own food on the BBQ outdoors. Wander just across the road to the estuary, and take a stroll down the beach to watch the sunset. This is such a peaceful and special place in the country - you won't want to leave!
Room includes a double bed with comfortable bedding, desk and chairs, jug and cups and plates. The shared bathroom consists of a toilet and vanity, with shower. While there are no cooking facilities available inside, you are most welcome to use the outdoor BBQ, or meals are available upon request.

Ki Te Moana (To The Sea) Bed and Breakfast Accommodation Art Gallery and Studio Norman is a celebrated artist working in watercolor and acrylic, selling his work on commission and through exhibitions throughout New Zealand and Australia. we accept art students with one on one tuition and in small groups. come stay with us and learn to draw and paint. beginners and practicing artists are most welcome. Most days you will find Norman working on a project somewhere on the property Norman is also a professional musician and singer, preforming with a band at various events and shows throughout New Zealand and he loves to entertain guests. Thelma is an art teacher and ceramicist . Working in watercolor and pen and wash on paper and in ceramics selling her works throughout New Zealand. Thelma is also a very patient teacher and a passionate gardener with her gardening skills on display throughout the property, herbs and vegetables are grown in abundance within the gardens and as an avid cook they are regularly incorporated into meals prepared for another passion of hers, entertaining guests... “taste is most important in cooking” says Thelma. Most days you will find her working somewhere in the gardens. Ki Te Moana is a peaceful inspiring vista, a magnificent property with sculptures in and around gardens and native bush, with places to sit and just relax in nature.
