The Hide is a super get-away for anyone travelling around Scotland on the NC500 or on your own adventure looking for a unique stay. Almost off-grid, it has a comfy bed, central woodburner and spectacular view. It's the perfect stepping stone towards the full off-grid experience, intended for people who are curious about living the off-grid lifestyle but also like to be able to charge their phone, boil a kettle and have a hot shower!

The Hide is a magical place with a magical view. I built the Hide six years ago as my own base camp while my mum Lucy and I set up the croft, Corry Meadow. I moved out last year and I think I’m ready to share my special place!

It’s semi off grid, with rainwater harvesting for the water and a 12volt pump for the tap and shower. The shower is rough but it has hot water and that’s what’s important! We have a composting toilet a short walk from the Hide (just like a normal toilet, except it's a handful of sawdust instead of a flush!) which is shared with our other Airbnb cabin.

Set up for short or longer stays it has all the plates, cutlery, mugs and wine glasses you would need with a sink and a double ring gas burner for cooking meals on. There's also an electric kettle and a fridge, utensils and storecupboard essentials (oil, salt, pepper and a handful of extras).

It has a double bed and a sofa that can be converted into a very comfy double bed or used as a single so it's suitable for up to four adults who are quite comfortable with each others company!

It isn't suitable for toddlers or younger due to the open fire and off-grid shower but older children are welcome if you think it would suit them.

There is a dining table with four seats, free unlimited wifi, but really you can just drink in that view, sitting on the deck with a glass of wine, watching the sun set. Or stargaze from the super comfy double bed!

The Hide is at the top of our dirt track road, through a wooden path winding through the woods to a little clearing.. It has views over Rogart and the neighbouring Rhemusaig, which means hill of primroses. There are fantastic walks where you can see right to Loch Fleet or just adventure on the croft itself!

The nearest train station is Rogart, about a 5 minute walk from the cabin. There is a small village shop about a 5 minute walk from the cabin where you can buy almost anything you can think of, from wellies to herring, midge repellant, firelighters, local eggs, masks and all other basic necessities The nearest places to eat are the Pittentrail Inn next to the village shop (again - a 5 min walk), The Pier in Lairg (15 min drive west) or there are a few good restaurants in Dornoch (15 min drive south-east), or fish and chips in Golspie (15 min drive north). We do have everything you would need to cook with in the cabin as well.

Maddy works from 7am-5:30pm weekdays and Lucy is offshore but full time on the croft when she is around. We will do what we can to be there when you arrive and make sure there's a warm fire if it's cold outside but if we're not able to you're more than welcome to arrive at any time, the cabins are usually open.

We'll ensure to welcome you when we are around but otherwise you will be left in peace and quiet to enjoy your stay. If you would rather have no contact at all let us know and we can send you instructions on where to find the key, where the toilet and shower is and how they work, and we are always available via text message.
