great off the beaten path place to stay!

What a warm and relaxing place! It's wonderfully off-the-beaten path--but also a good home-base to explore the sites of Santa Fe and environs. Favorite aspects include proximity (walking distance) to the state park for our doggie, the unique landscape of the property itself, and the wood-burning stove inside the cabin. The big walk-in shower is also fun. Shawn herself is totally boss--helpful, welcoming, and chill.

Such a wonderful and cozy place to stay near Santa Fe! The coffee, eggs, and cookies were delicious too!

If you're looking for a quiet, cozy casita just off the beaten path, then this place is perfect. Nestled behind Los Cerrillos Park, the adobe abode opens to scenic vistas and stunning sunsets surrounded by artwork and chimes with an eclectic vibe. And, when you're ready for an adventure you are close enough to everything - skiing, trekking, biking, climbing, perusing artwork, sipping local beer, listening to live music, dining, and so on... The casita is a unique hideaway with personal touches throughout - a rock shower, artwork, wood burning stove, fresh eggs straight from their coop, comfy bed layered with comforters, front porch with table which we ate every meal at overlooking the hills. And, the family stole our hearts. Their sweet tail-wagging Mr. Darcy greeted our Layla ready to play. Their daughter hand selected one of her childhood books for us to read to our son. Jill and Thomas were warm and welcoming and always ready for a chat. We highly recommend this place for people who aren't looking for the conventional fast paced vacation in the city.

An eclectic space that may not be for everyone but was as described and, I found, charming. It is a dead area for AT&T phone service and the touch and go internet was reminiscent of dial-up. A very rural setting where you can see the stars and enjoy the quiet.

A great little casita nestled in beautiful foothills. Jill made us feel right at home. Her artistic and creative touches have made a cozy, unique space in a very peaceful setting.

The pictures don't do it justice. An idyllic little hideaway (aptly named) that perfectly blends modern with traditional. Comfortable and cozy. Quiet and relaxing. The garden courtyard with the koi pond is a beautiful and peaceful place to relax at any time of day. Far enough from town that you feel as if you are on a retreat, but close enough that you can visit Santa Fe or other areas without too much of a drive. Just a few minutes away from funky artist town Madrid. Definitely go to Shugarman's Little Chocolate shop if you can! Kerry and Kevin are warm, friendly and knowledgeable. Kerry delivered some absolutely delicious home baked scones that I very much enjoyed. Definitely would return.

Super cute comfy guest house and very hospitable hosts. The countryside is beautiful and Los Cerillos has historical old west charm. Easy drive to Santa Fe and other places you want to visit. We had a great stay and will be back next visit.

Perfect place to visit the area. Immaculate and very modern yet in the style of New Mexico living. Priced very low for the area. Out of the busy of Santa Fe, but only a 30 minute drive and very close( 4 miles) to Madrid which is a DO NOT MISS town.Kevin and Kerry were perfect hosts . They greeted us on arrival. Very secure location. Cannot beat this for a quiet place that is just minutes from any activity your should want. Try the MINE SHAFT for food and/or tavern and the HOLLER for food in Madrid. We will be back again for sure. there are 2 steps from living to bed room , but not difficult.

*********VERY COZY, ROMANTIC & PRIVATE********* Kerry & Kevin are awesome hosts! The "Hide-away" is a cozy, clean, private, fully-equipped adobe cottage just 20 min S of Santa Fe on NM-14. It's a beautiful drive & conveniently located between Madrid & Albquerque. Kevin helped us get out bags in after our long drive from MN. Kerry baked us some gluten-free scones, cookies, brought over spices & delicious chocolate birthday cupcakes with strawberries on top. They had great suggestions for places to eat nearby, and even set up a fire pit for us to have a private, romantic evening by the fire.... This is a very cool setting, and you won't be disappointed!!!!

Bonnie and Steve have been the most lovely hosts we ever met. The Location is beautiful and we had a really lovely time in Cerrillos. Thank you very much for all, it was so nice and now we have two new friends more.

Bonnie was a fantastic host! Not only that she took her time to tell about her experience how she setteled to this beautiful old mining town, but she gave me a private tour to this wonderful place! Her benevolence and genuine desire to share her experience was over the top! I can not even imagine how anyone would feel anything but warmly welcome at her house!! I could go on and on but you should experience her sweetness in person!! Simply fantastic!!!

Bonnie and Steve were excellent host! The space was as expected and a great experience! They provided breakfast foods for us and my personal favorite a couple of tecate beers in the fridge! Would definitely recommend this Cowboy Style living!

Bonnie and her husband were amazing hosts, and they were very accommodating. We were traveling to Seattle for a road trip, and Bonnie and her husband made some great suggestions on things to do locally, in Santa Fe, as well as potential stops for the remainder of the road trip. Their place was clean, and comfortable; and while it wasn't required, they even left us some complimentary snacks and drinks during our stay. Bonnie also went out of her way to keep in touch and ensure that we arrived safely. The home and service went far beyond expectation, especially for the price that they offer it in! 20/10 would absolutely visit again!

Bonnie and her husband are a lovely couple and will do their best to make your trip in Serillos unforgettable. The place is extremely clean and very cozy. If you want to dive in a real cow boy town this is the perfect stop. There is also a very nice 3-5 km hike full of mines to do right around the corner.

We really enjoyed our stay in the RV and in the town of Cerrillos. The scenery is beautiful, the RV is comfortable and the community offers stores/restaurants and art to explore. To top it off our hosts were welcoming and easy going.

Bonnie's RV was great! The space itself was very comfortable and had everything we needed. It's so peaceful and quiet out there in Cerrillos and we enjoyed being off the grid for a night. Bonnie and her husband were very welcoming and accommodating and provided us with suggestions of places to go in Santa Fe. One note: it's a little off the beaten path if you're looking to stay in Santa Fe proper, but the drive into the city isn't bad at all and it's a great little getaway. No complaints, would definitely stay here again!

The tipi was really cool. This Airbnb is located in a sustainable living learning center, and I wish we had had more time to chat with our hosts about what they do there, but what we saw was really cool.

Amanda was very welcoming & altered her schedule for our arrival. She gave us all of the isntructions & provided us with everything we needed! The tipi was incredible, as was the entire area. There was hiking, sustainability, & interesting places to visit nearby. It was very relaxing and fun!

We had a great time. Very peaceful, with everything we needed. It wasn't hard to find, and Madrid is a cool town to check out nearby.

We stayed in the tipi on December 21st and it was such a memorable experience! We would stay here again in a heartbeat --but at a different time of year. We were prepared for cold temps, but it was almost unbearably frigid after the fire went out. We were pretty underprepared as far as supplies went. The location is much more remote than we anticipated. We arrived around 5pm as it was getting dark...we had planned to walk into Madrid for dinner and then come back, but we were about a mile north and a mile deep into some rugged terrain, so it was quickly deemed unreasonable (though not impossible, I suppose). We only had a loaf a bread (our own mistake), but Amanda very generously gave us some frozen dinners which heated up nicely over the fire. There was also a gallon of rain water for us. Water from the sky! Our advice: Be very, very prepared! Pack for extreme cold --even if you don't think it will be cold. Bring food! (Obvious tips, right?) Also --bring a sense of humor and an open mind. Plan to arrive before dark, so you can see! (It is very intricate land.) The fire pit was great! Bring more wood than you think you will need. We took a stroll in the morning...the land is beautiful, and there is a trail marked with stacks of rocks. Ask Amanda to show you the way! Definitely stay at the Tipi Retreat for a truly unique experience. It's such an inspiring place. And the town of Madrid is a real trip! Give yourself some time there. And don't neglect to stop in Golden along the way! Leroy will be there to greet you.

The Tipi retreat was exactly like the picture, very cool. A 4x4 works best, loved the off-road experience getting there. The outhouse was very clean and what a treat to use captured rain water to wash with, made us more conscious on our consumption and less wasteful. We got the fire wood, would suggest for you to get more. Amanda explained very well on how to set the fire and the ventilation system inside, fascinating. We would suggest to take turns in keeping an eye on the fire, we let ours out and it got very cold very quickly. Bright side is that we were able to see all the stars via the opening on top, that was a treat! Star gazing in bed. Neighborhood? Ahh, no one was around, perfect for us and exactly what we wanted. We went for a sunset hike when we arrived and sunrise next morning. Amanda had pointed out the paths which are marked by stones. She suggested a great huge rock to visit and climb. Saw many lizards and rabbits along the way. At dusk, many lil'flies came out. They did not bother me but seemed to be attracted to my boyfriend more. We plan to visit again next year. This time we will bring more blankets (I am always cold) and a small pot to boil some water in for tea. We had our flashlights and that came in really handy. I would suggest not to bring food into the Teepee, just to make sure bugs don't come in later.

Amanda and Andy were excellent hosts. They were very hospitable and helpful. The Tipi is definitely a similar experience to camping, but with a lot of space and privacy. Having a fire in the tipi was a lot of fun. It rained one night during my stay, but I stayed completely dry in the tipi and had a very comfortable night. Highly recommended if you are looking for an outdoorsy experience.

We really loved the Tipi and staying at Ampersand Sustainable Learning Center. The space was exactly as pictures and felt like a lovely retreat. Additionally Amanda and Andrew made sure we had enough filtered rain water to stay hydrated and provided maps and guidance regarding the area. Madrid, NM is an adorable town. Sleeping in the Tipi was very comfortable and the outhouse was easy to use! I'd recommend this place to any adventurers. Thank you so much Amanda and Andrew!

Amanda warmly greeted us and gave us a rundown of the Tipi and property. The night was freezing but we were well equipped with two sleeping bags per person and warm tea. The property was lovely to explore in the morning and the rain water provided was refreshing.

We enjoyed staying in the cabin very much. The cabin has a very calming and peaceful energy and we had some good nights sleeps. Also it is very well equipped with everything you may require for your stay. We would love to come for another time.

Awesome cabin! A little ways out of Santa Fe, but very close to two super cool villages, Madrid and Los Carillos. The cabin was beautiful with a rustic and antique charm. Barbara was very nice and her sweet little farm was very neat.

We really enjoyed our stay! The land is absolutely gorgeous and we loved the cabin. We brought the dog and she had a great time too. The host dogs were very friendly and cute!

I loved staying at The Coop. I only had a day there and wished it was much longer. The property is very safe, behind a gated driveway and tucked away from view of the road. My stay was magical. I could not decide whether to spend time inside the beautiful, comforting space or out discovering the gorgeous, spacious property. It was all awsome. Absolutely recommend.

We loved our stay here, Madrid is a fun place to walk around and is only a few miles down the road. Santa fe is close enough to enjoy frequently, but the property feels remote and quiet- just what we were seeking. Gini is a great host, property is in great shape. The coop and the surroundings are magic! So tranquil and beautiful! So quiet for a great sleep and waking up to coffee on the patio while watching desert bunnies jump by is wonderful. A bit outside Santa Fe but a perfect escape! Gini is a very thoughtful host!

Gini was really sweet, loving and answering very fast – up to help with anything all the time. The Coop is really cosy, a home far from home for sure. The garden of the Goddess Retreat is a little Garden Eden, with humming birds and a water fountain. If you seek peace, nature and cozy comfort, this is your place.

Book this place ASAP. It is decorated perfectly and tucked away in the mountains like a dream escape. Go visit Madrid when you're there for a charming tiny town. The Hollar and Mineshaft were very fun.

Carol's place was perfect. We loved getting away from Santa Fe at night and driving up the winding roads of Madrid. The house looked just as the photos-- it was adorable, comfortable and clean. We enjoyed sitting on the patio as well as in the living room and reading all the books Carol had on the shelves. Thank you so much for a pleasant and easy night!

My experience at Carols' home in Madrid was absolutely spectacular. Breath taking backyard views, cozy beds, adorable claw tub, and donkeys at the end of the driveway are just a few of the great things this house has to offer. My friends and I ended up arriving at around 4am due to delays with our flight and Carol was so understating! Also left us a welcome packet upon arriving with clear instructions and a little page with things do in town/surrounding areas. Highly recommend! Such a great relaxing beautiful experience.

My sisters and I had a magical time at Carol's home in Madrid, NM! We were so enchanted by the home and the whole town of Madrid. We also enjoyed a hike in nearby Cerrillos Hills State Park. Carol and her property manager, Gwendolyn, both emailed to ensure that everything was running smoothly upon our arrival. I can't wait to plan my next trip to Madrid!

I don't think the photographs do this place justice. It is really beautiful. I loved my stay here and would like to stay here again in the future. My favorite part was stargazing (billions of stars clearly visible) on the huge deck right off of the room. Woke up to bunnies playing outside our room and went out in the crisp, cool morning to take in the views for the last time. Stay here because you will NOT regret it.

The "King Room" in-of-it-self... is amazing; the views I woke up to were breathtaking. The home is clean and uncluttered with interesting books and lovely simplicity. Steff who is the caretaker, is very kind and so quiet... I didn't know he was there! I love this space and will gladly visit again soon.

No air conditioning, room was extremely hot.. The add said it was in the mine shaft tavern and it wasn't... We didn't stay there.. Requested a refund.. And didn't get it... Really need to express in advance no air conditioning... Very hot! Highly recommend staying somewhere else!

This was not just a "stay" --it was an EXPERIENCE. Cannot say enough amazing things about Lonnie and the whole lovely place that you will call home for a few days if you stay here. She takes care of you like family and the place is just gorgeous. The peaceful energy is palpable. The doggies and kitties are lovely. The place manages to feels luxe even though it's rustic. Also, even when I had scheduled a service and ultimately changed my mind, she was understanding and accomodating.

This was a last minute booking on our travels as touring bicyclists. Thankfully Lonnie had an opening. She was very gracious and accommodating to our particular needs. She was knowledgeable about the local history of the area and community. The room had gorgeous view of the sunrise. Thank you to Lonnie for adjusting her normal breakfast schedule to accommodate our early departure needs.

Great experience all around. We played at the Mine Shaft Tavern, and the lodging was just steps away from the bar. The town is beautiful and it's a great getaway for the night.

When I arrived @ The Mineshaft, I was thoroughly ragged out & slightly brain damaged after having driven for 5+ hours straight; w/in seconds of meeting her, Lori felt like an old friend whom I had not seen in a while. The Mineshaft is a funky place w/good food, great live music, a friendly staff, & ideally situated for checkin out the town. The outside of the building housing the rooms is pretty non-descript, but the inside is a whole different story. The room that I occupied was spacious, very tastefully decorated, & very comfy. I will definitely return & stay longer.

This was my first experience with Airbnb and my first visit to Madrid in about 30 years. The room was great and as described. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were great. Most of all, the place was clean! Thank you for an awesome experience.

Great place to stay for the night which totally met our needs and was the right price. The town was nice and the bar next door was a fun spot to hang out in.

The room was a cool 74 degrees upon walking in. Clean Clean and beautiful. The only downside is that Madrid has sulfuric water. Not fun if you are taking a shower. She left us bottled water that we used to brush our teeth. What a beautiful place and a beautiful town!

Madrid was magical!! And the room was quite nice--king sized bed, coffee maker. I definitely hope to be back!! One tip--coordinate beforehand with Lori for check-in instructions. I didn't do so, and had some trouble finding her when I arrived to town.

The Copper Penny House was a great place to stay! Very cute, and Dan and Miriam were very welcoming. My dog and I both loved the outdoor space.

What an amazing stay. The hosts are very accommodating and conveyed nothing but amazing hospitality. The home is adorable and filled with awesome artwork from these two talented indiviuals. The views are to die for and if you like star gazing, well this is the best place for it. We will definitely be staying here again on our next trip out. We were there for the crawfish festival in May 2017. It is an awesome place, the pictures in the ad don't do the house justice. The outside deck was nice to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee, you can see downtown from the deck. The bed was comfortable. There is interesting art work on the walls painted by the owners. When we arrived on our motorcycles there was a cold sixpack of beer in the refrigerator, a fresh loaf of homemade bread on the table with a note welcoming us to their home. The house was quaint with all new appliances and very well kept, modern, and clean. There was coffee, creamers, and sugar in the cupboard for guest use. If you are a motorcycle rider, there is a bike washing station with all you need to clean your bike. There was also oil and some gasoline to help us get to the next gas station. The owner came by and we went to the Minors Tavern for the festival, listened to the bands, talked with the owners, and had a couple drinks, very nice people. It was the nicest house in the neighborhood. There was a small garden in the front yard with fresh lettuce. It is within a 5 minute walk to downtown. We are reserving it again for next year's crawfish festival.

A must stay on The Turquoise Trail

My wife and I had a fantastic stay at Java Junction. In fact, we decided to change our itinerary and spend another night at her bed and breakfast. Madrid, NM is a great, funky town and Java Junction seems to embody all the qualities that make it so unique. The apartment was very nice, the bed comfortable, and best of all, lots of great coffee. We would come back in a heartbeat!

This was our favorite place to stay in New Mexico so far. Madrid is a fascinating village full of character. The apartment had everything we needed for our stay - with a full kitchen and even an outdoor patio. It is very clean, well kept, and well decorated. The bed is comfy and the coffee downstairs is very good. The complimentary breakfast and coffee in the morning is a nice plus.

I was very happy with my stay in Nancy's wonderful suite above the Java Junction coffee house. The accommodations were exactly what I would hope for from an airbnb, all of the comforts of a hotel room with the charm and unique qualities that I miss in a more formal setting. I felt certain that Nancy would have answered any an all questions or concerns, but as there was none that arose, her pleasantly allowing my partner and I privacy was greatly appreciated. This is a great place to stay for Burquenios who need a quick, no-fuss night out of town, and Madrid is always a pleasure as well.

The Bed and Breakfast at Java Junction was better than advertised! The b&b was exceptionally tidy and allowed privacy while being steps away from the main strip of Madrid. Although we didn't use the kitchen, it was great to have the option to cook; however, there were nice breakfast options at Java Junction and great dinner options at The Hollar restaurant. Additionally, the unit has a nice back patio which is great for enjoying breakfast or a glass of wine. Nancy was a great host; she was great with communication prior to our trip and offered plenty of suggestions and tips for our stay. Nancy was very accommodating to our arrival time and worked with us to ensure an smooth and easy check-in. The town of Madrid has a ton of character and is home to numerous creative individuals. Logistically, the town is in a good location and allows easy access to Santa Fe and Albuquerque (about an hours drive to both).

This is my second time to stay Carolyn's place. Next time I still will stay here again. <3

We had a great time at Casita Bonanza. We were looking for a nice, quiet place to get away from everything and this was a good fit for us. As another reviewer noted, it was a good balance between getting away from everything yet being close enough to Santa Fe to enjoy what the city has to offer as well. And our hostess was great...she had the guest house well stocked with everything you need to enjoy your stay. We would definitely like to stay here again when we are back in the area!

Carolyn is the best Airbnb host either my husband or I have ever met. The fridge was stocked for us with some useful basics on our arrival, and since we brought our 5 month old, Carolyn even provided us with baby wash and a teddy bear gift! She was responsive and helpful whenever we needed her, which even included running down an onion one afternoon when we realized we didn't have one for the meal we were cooking. The casita itself is very spacious, clean, cosy, and comfortable. And the property and surrounding landscape are stunning. We stayed for 2 weeks while I was working on a film at Eaves ranch and the location and vibe of the place couldn't have been more perfect. It's about a 30 min drive to Santa Fe - so this lodging is only appropriate for people looking for somewhat of a getaway away from the hustle bustle. I highly recommend Casita Bonanza to nature lovers, artists and young families. We hope to be back soon!

Carolyn was most helpful when we were arriving after dark and needed direction when our electronic devices failed. The casita is beautiful. We enjoyed watching the sunrise and sunset from the second story deck.

Wow, what an amazing space! We didn't ever want to leave! Super cozy, inviting, and peaceful, we loved our time here. We were amazed to find bagels and tasty baked goods in the fridge, and also at how well stocked the kitchen was. We truly felt at home. The location is stunning, with mountain vistas in every direction. Close enough to Santa Fe to spend time there, but also far enough to escape from normal busy life. We can't wait to come back!

The Casita is truly amazing, very typical, huge, calm and the view from the terrace breathtaking! Everything was very clean, the bed is comfy, the bathroom beautiful and the check in and check out so easy. We didn't have any issues finding the home with our GPS, even if it's almost in the middle of nowhere (which is what we were looking for!). The kitchen is provided with everything you need to cook, even the fridge was filled with juice, chocolate, bread, marmelade... A night we asked Carolyn a corkscrew and she brought us one literally 30 seconds later. Would definitely recommend this place!

I spent two weeks here, it was a great experience. The house is large and well-equipped, and I especially enjoyed the exterior rooftop with amazing open views. Carolyn left many things in the fridge for me and made sure everything was ok. The neighborhood is very peaceful, if you like large open areas you will love this place.

Honestly this is one of the best air bnbs that I have ever stayed in. We had a fantastic host. He was so accommodating, answered any and all questions, and helpful about the area and information about the place. Incredibly friendly and the place was clean, centrally located (literally in the middle of everything), all kitchen needs, wifi and comfortable. Outdoor patio too for seeing the stars! We will absolutely be back to this place!

Honore was an incredibly welcoming and lovely host. We had such a wonderful time at the Casita! We spent most of our time skiing the nearby mountain of Santa Fe but the time we did spend in Madrid could not have been more beautiful. What an absolutely adorable little town! We would most definitely visit again and recommend Honore to everyone!

Truly beautiful home. The house was perfect for communal gathering with picturesque views. The rooms were a little chilly even with the heaters on, but there was a wood burning stove and plenty of blankets to keep you warm. Everything in the home is just as described (or maybe better than described). Would love to come back any day!

We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Jupiter. The road leading up to the house is a little tricky but is fine once you drive it a couple times. There's a spiritual vibe to the house that you just won't find at many places. There is a labyrinth and crystal growing out of the hill top itself. Also there are new age and spiritual books everywhere. It turned out to be a really nice get away. The views are spectacular and I don't think the pictures really capture the charm of the house. While we were there we saw all kinds of wild birds, chipmunks, bunnies and even a coyote. There is a great arroyo (dry river bed) at the bottom of the cliff that is awesome for walks and rock collecting. We did have a water issue while we were there but the Jeannine was quick to resolve and make us comfortable. This is definitely a place to revisit!

Me, my wife and our 2 kids (11 and 12) stayed for 2 nights and loved it!.. 20 mins from Santa Fe yet you felt like you were in the country. Amazing views, homely house with a log fire and a labyrinth for walking meditation were great experiences.. A unique property :)

Ein wunderschönes Haus, komplett und sehr individuell und ansprechend ausgestattet. Die Lage ist traumhaft. Wir würden jederzeit wieder dort sein wollen. Beanstandungen gibt es absolut keine. Das Haus ist fast als ein Kunstwerk zu betrachten.

Casa Jupiter was even better than the photos indicated. The drive to Santa Fe was very manageable. Mike was charming, on time in meeting, and an interesting artist/host. We absolutely loved our stay there and highly recommend this place if you want privacy in a lovely, well appointed, handcrafted adobe with lots of great artistic "touches" throughout. We hope to come back in the future. Our only regret was not spending more time with the host.

Very glad we stayed at Casa Jupiter! Mike met us at checkin and gave us a full tour of the property. The house was much bigger and nicer than any pictures can capture. We had three little kids in our group that loved feeding the ravens, hiking the trails, and making s'mores in the outdoor fireplace. The adults soaked up the scenery on the sunset patio. We will be remembering this home for our future trips to the Santa Fe area.
