For something different and for those that wish to step into a true western experience try the Branding Iron. It is located at the Shasta livestock cattle auction. This is a very casual restaurant with tasty, traditional American food. The open faced roast beef sandwiches are a favorite. Some of the friendliest service around! Great for breakfast and lunch every day starting at 6am and dinners Wed. Thrs. Fri. Sat. until 8:30pm. Side note: this is the highest volume cattle auction west of the Rockies. You will definitely hear and smell the cattle as they are brought there by ranchers for sale.

Redding has a few Restaurants that would be rated higher on our scale. The Woodside Grill is not so high end that you have to worry about dressing up for the meal. Its pretty casual around here and the restaurants are very used to locals dressing in shorts or jeans and tshirts for going out. Great clam chowder on Fridays and always great salads! My daughters love their hamburgers and pastas dishes as well. The menu isn't huge but what you do find on it is quality. Their hours are 6:30am to 2:00pm then 5:00pm to 9:00pm.
Locals pretty much overwhelmingly will vote Peter Chu's as the best Chinese food you can find in the Redding, Anderson, Cottonwood area. I can not say enough about how excellent the food is there! Great service, linen table cloth, a very cool view of the airport runway from above. Note:
You might want to take some leftovers back to the cottage when you leave as there is always some left when we are finished eating there.

Peter Chu's Skyroom

You might want to take some leftovers back to the cottage when you leave as there is always some left when we are finished eating there.
Sushi! Shushi is a little limited in Redding but there are three great places to find it that I know of. Each is great for their own reasons. I like Tokyo Garden because it seems like a hole in the wall yet walking in you see plenty of seating and the quality of the food is excellent. They have won local awards for being the best sushi in Redding but they have some stiff competition. Tokyo Garden also has other items on the menu other than sushi. Atmosphere is good for a conversation with friends. The service has always been good when we go there however I've seen it pretty busy at times. Its not the type of place to typically need a reservation but I would still call.

The Chefs are always entertaining! Great for dinner or lunch I have heard mixed reviews of the service but the service I have had there has always been excellent. (With one time going into spectacular service when the waitress helped my daughter and I throughout the entire lunch meal with samples and conversation).

I have eaten there many times with great experiences every time! I have only had sushi there once for lunch and it was beyond excellent. They have options to choose a table or a seat in front of a chef that will cook your food in front of you. The Chefs are always entertaining! Great for dinner or lunch I have heard mixed reviews of the service but the service I have had there has always been excellent. (With one time going into spectacular service when the waitress helped my daughter and I throughout the entire lunch meal with samples and conversation).
Burrito Bandito is a favorite of locals for fast tacos and burritos. If you have been to a Chipotle then you have an idea of how Burrito Bandito does its thing. Always fresh ingredients to choose from! The atmosphere is very casual with cartoon paintings of the famous outlaw "Juan Mean Burrito" on the walls. Its a light hearted, fast food, place that every Mexican food lover will enjoy. My girls will skip the tortillas at times and just have the burrito bowl.

It's a quaint restaurant that has darn good food! We've been there for breakfast and lunch and each time we are very glad we made the trip up to Dunsmir. Their pancakes, eggs Benedict, and Buffalo wings are great! Check out the shop next to it...they have a glass covered hole in the floor where you can see the underground water rush beneath the building that eventually goes into the streams.

Similar to a Denny's, but much better food...Shari's has one of the largest menus that we have seen with lots of photos of their food. Good food, good price and great pies! Right off I-5 in Red Bluff (3rd exit) Open 24 hours!

Don't be fooled by the outside (looks old west)! The food and dining experience inside is so opposite! Cloth covered tables, friendly service and the chef cooks up some great food. We ate here once and would definitely eat here again when we head East to Burney.

One of the most interesting and romantic places you can visit in Redding. Such a pleasant walk to take across the Sacramento River. Watching a sunset from the bridge can be spectacular at times. You will find joggers, families, travelers and just about anyone that wants to relax with a nice view of the river. The Turtle Bay museum almost always has an interesting exhibit going on and the coffee shop is a Peet's Coffee! (My favorite tasting brand). The Coffee shop and Museum close around 4:00pm. Note: The bridge is lighted at night and beautiful! I believe its open all night with security guards always present just to keep it a safe environment.

These are a little hard to get to and you will be walking next to the train tracks. But on a hot day, this hike is worth it! Mossbrae falls mists the area around it and the water comes right out of the hillside. Beautiful!

And to make them even cooler, the caverns are only accessible via guided tours that include a boat ride across the sparkling lake—the only way the public can reach the site. Guided Tours of Lake Shasta Caverns are offered year round. It’s a moderately strenuous 45- to 60-minute visit inside, with some 600 stairs accessing different parts of the labyrinth, but it’s well worth the effort.
