Really fantastic buffet their Broad Arrow Tavern. I'm told it's all you can eat lobster on Sundays but we've always done the weekday buffet at that is delectable and only $20. During covid, I'm not sure what they're doing now, but it might be worth asking. If it's a holiday such as Mother's Day the buffet here will blow your mind. All beautifully prepared by amazing chefs in a wood fired oven, Beautiful and yummy!

Best fried clams in the world. Steamed lobsters, fish and chips. You can't have the dog with you on their property, but you can sit on the bench overlooking the boats and eat there, or get food take out here.

Plenty of gluten free options, outside, right up the street, walkable if you don't mind walking on the road... Look at their website to check their hours, I think they are closed now on Mondays...

Well not sure if this webpage has the location I'm thinking about, which is right off the east End Trail by Fore Points Marine. This season it's actually two food trucks. One has delectable food, with many vegan gluten free/dairy free choices, and the other food truck is basically booze but also iced tea and lemonaide. A water dish for dogs at every table! Live music Thursday thru Sunday, plenty of tourists so be wary and wear your mask and sunglasses, maintain your distance!

Dogs welcome to play off leash on this beautiful beach before 8 am and after 5 pm in the summer. You can follow the promenade trail one mile into the Old Port and explore the dog friendly Portland waterfront. You can also park in the Old Port and walk down to the beach and back. Lots of waterfront terraces where you can dine with your dog.

Take the ferry from Harraseeket Lunch and Lobster out to a little island with no electricity or stores! Bring your picnic and enjoy a convenient walk around the island. This might not be such a great idea during covid season, residents might be paranoid about guests.

The Casco Bay Lines ferry in Portland is a 20 minute drive from our house. You can take the ferry down the bay or just out to Peaks Island (20 minute ferry ride), spend the day exploring and get back in time for the kid's bedtime. We like to pack up a picnic and our dogs and family and take the mailboat run as a family "activity," and just ride out and back, enjoying the amazing views and insights into island life as the boat delivers mail and freight.

Tidal beaches here are only good swimming two hours before and after high tide, but then they are often GREAT swimming! The water here is warmer than exposed beaches. Dogs are allowed in the park trails ON LEASH, so walk with your dog all the way to the end, and then you can swim your dog off the point and leash walk back through the park. There are shady places to park. This is a campground on the beach. Playground and main beach are both off-limits to dogs, but otherwise very dog friendly. There used to be live music on Thursday evenings, not sure if that is coming back now or not... As always, bring your mask and wear it when you see other people.

Public Bathroom! Dog friendly Ferry out to the islands! If you've got your mask and sanitizer, you can maintain space but don't bother trying this on weekends. Try going in the middle of the day to avoid the commuters. We lived on Peaks Island for 30 years, raised our family out there, so it has a special place in our hearts. There are restaurants out there, a food truck too, and a grocery store. It takes about an hour to walk all the way around the island. The water there is substantially colder than it is off Winslow Park here in Freeport, but on a hot day it is spectacularly worth the shock!

You're here! There are three miles of trails around us. If you like a long walk, you can take the trail all the way to Freeport Village, and buy lunch from the Harrasseeket Lunch and Lobster, and walk back. Spray yourself and your dogs with bug dope, as sometimes the mosquitos can be intense. We've seen all kinds of wildlife out there, and sometimes we see solo runners or other people with dogs, so know your dog and don't let them offleash unless you know they are good in those types of situations.

Go to the end and find parking for just a few cars, and many steps going down to a very "secret" dog friendly tidal beach. Don't tell anyone about this place and make sure your dogs don't bother anyone, but often times you will be the only one at the beach. If you go to the point it drops off a bit and it's fantastic swimming. In the spring horse-shoe crabs are here by the hundreds, breeding. Please don't disturb, but it's amazing to see these prehistoric looking creatures en mass!

Arts & Culture

Fantastic and right next to the Children's Museum. Free on friday evenings, 4 til 8 pm. If you go on the first Friday of the month, the streets in the area will be jam packed with artists and street dancers, open galleries, it's an amazing creative chaos that has been blooming! Many great places to eat, we favor Dog Fish Cafe because they have GREAT live music, and also Andy's Old Port Pub which is super family friendly, cheap but yummy healthy pub food and live music 7 nights a week. Neither of those places has an outside decks for dogs, but you will find many streetside cafes which do welcome dogs.

Sightseeing

Pack a picnic and go on the mailboat run and is the best (cheap!) way to get a waterfront tour of Portland harbor and the local islands. Or just get a ticket to Peaks Island, that's a fifteen minute ferry ride and get off and go for a walk around the island, eat at one of the restaurants, go to the beach and find out how cold water can be!

It's a fifteen minute drive away, parking is free but it will be crowded on weekends. Gorgeous view across Portland Harbor, and you can walk from here down into the Old Port. Before 8 am and after 5 pm beach is open to off leash dogs. The shore trail that leads to the Old Port has a cool outdoor vegan dog-friendly restaurant (I liked the chickpea fries, but I was really hungry) and tons of outdoor seating once you get into the Old Port. Wear your mask! You can also walk up higher, up along the promenade for gorgeous long views, you can go check out the impressive community gardens that are up there, back behind the playground

Food scene

You can go online and place your order and then they'll pack it up and text you when you can come pick it up. They have great local food options, it's something between a health food store and a local food store, they pride themselves on their produce, so if you go there when it's not too busy you should definitely run in and see all the great food they don't have listed on their website.
