Days out in London #1

Walk, cycle, bus or tube to the Tower of London. Do the tour! Walk across Tower Bridge, then walk up the river, past City Hall, towards London Bridge. Have lunch at Borough Market. Continue walking up the river past Shakespeare's Globe, and visit Tate Modern. There are more lunch options behind the Tate. Then continue walking up the river, past the BFI and Royal Festival Hall/Southbank. London Eye is just a little further, if you have the energy! Or cross over the river at Southbank (via the passenger bridge) and get the tube home from Embankment (which is on the District Line).
Huge selection of delicious empanadas straight out of the oven, cheap wine and beer, eat standing at a stall outside so you experience the full market experience.

Get the tube to Victoria. Walk to Buckingham Palace, the Mall, Royal Horseguards, Churchill War Rooms, No 10 Downing Street, Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square. Stop for a look inside the National Gallery, and/or the National Portrait Gallery - which has a lovely café, opposite St Martin in the Fields. Where they also have lunchtime concerts. Have lunch in Chinatown or Covent Garden. Shop the afternoon away in Covent Garden - which also has loads of great pubs. Get the tube home from Embankment.
Superb Malaysian food, not overly fussy, quick service, always busy. The laksa and the beef rendang are my favourites but I've never had a bad dish here!

Days out in London #3

Tube to Highgate, tour historic Highgate Cemetary, walk to Hampstead Heath and check out the view of London. The gardens at Kenwood House are lovely. Maybe have lunch at the historic Spaniards Inn. Jump on a bus down to Camden and check out the markets and the crowds. You can walk along the canal from Camden to Kings Cross and get the tube (Hammersmith & City Line) home from there.
Busy 16th-c pub next to Hampstead Heath with charming garden - flagstoned walk among roses, side arbour with climbing plants and plenty of seats on crazy-paved terrace (arrive early weekends as popular with dog walkers and families); attractive and characterful low-ceilinged rooms with oak panelling, antique winged settles, snug alcoves and open fires.

Days out in London #4

Walk to where Mile End Road joins Regents Canal. Walk along the canal past Victoria Park (nice spot for a picnic), continuing on to Broadway Market (Saturdays). Stop for brunch/lunch. Cross back over the canal and walk to Hackney City Farm to see the animals. Then you could go to Rich Mix (Bethnal Green) for films, music and theatre. Or keep walking along the canal all the way to Angel (Islington), where you can see some bands, a movie, a play, have dinner or go to the pub.
Broadway Market is the home of all things unusual, stylish, unique, tasty, useful. Every Saturday it is rammed with discerning customers seeking great ingredients that dinner for friends, or a unique present for a special friend, a vintage piece to impress ..... the possibilities are endless.
