Hiking
This was my family's go to hiking spot when I was a kid, and I still love it. Starting half a mile from the Denali Visitor Center, the trail is a steep two hour hike up to the overlook. It can be a lot of work, but the view of the park entrance and the surrounding mountains is worth it. A social trail continues on beyond this point, but it is un-maintained and rough. About 15 miles in to the park, the Savage River is as far as people are permitted to drive in a personal vehicle. The Savage River Loop Trail is a gentle hike following alongside the river to a bridge and returning on the other side. The whole loop takes about an hour to complete. The Savage Alpine trail is a strenuous hike traveling four miles back towards the park entrance to the Savage River Campground. A free shuttle is available from there back to the parking at the trail-head.
