The Met Cloisters is a hidden gem. If you are in NYC for more than 5 days in the spring, summer or fall, I highly recommend going up to the cloisters. It's an old fort turned into a museum of European medieval architecture, they actually have brought over cloisters and other structures from abandon churches and reconstructed it into the building.
Apart from that, they also have a wonderful garden to walk through where you can have a picnic.

Expansive natural history museum, they have a great section on evolution as well as the Planetarium, which is my favorite part. Take a walk around the Haden's sphere to realize just how massive the universe is!

They have the famous gold Klimt. It's a very small museum so it makes it pricy, but if you love Klimt, it's a must. They also have a great german cafe too, but it's also pricey (but tasty)!

If you love movies and muppets, this is a must! They have a lot of great props as well as a whole permanent exhibit on Jim Henson.
It's basically right across the street.
