OH! You have to try the rainbow french toast! Kava's is great any time of day. The staff are awesome and very rarely do you have to wait for a seat, even during the busy times.

Try the Pizza Bella! The wings are good also. And if you do a carry out order, sometimes they give you an ice cream sandwich while you wait.

Glacier has some really awesome IPA's. They are also an awesome restaurant, we recommend reservations in the summer as it can get packed quickly! You can get a growler to go if you're just looking for a great beer though.

This one is making our list for beer and for restaurants. You have to give their Raspberry wheat a try. Kimberly tried it the first time she lived in Alaska and it's the first thing she ordered at Moose's Tooth when she moved back almost 7 years ago.
If you want to catch a great flick, have an awesome beer, and eat while watching your film, you have to visit the Bear Tooth. You order your food/drinks at the counter and they'll bring your dinner into the theatre for you.

Unique Anchorage spots

We recently were told "you're never a tourist in your own town". Well, sometimes we are. Here are a few of our favorite unique Anchorage spots you might consider visiting.
Chanshtnu Muldoon Community Park is just a few blocks from our place. The trail from the park leads back to an awesome greenbelt.

One of Kimberly's favorite places. The zoo houses many Alaskan animals who were injured and couldn't be released. In the spring and summer there are always baby bears and moose temporarily stopping in.

A scale replica of the solar system, the Sun starts you in downtown Anchorage and you follow the Tony Knowles Coastal trail ending at Pluto in Kincaid park. You can rent a bike downtown to make this trip go a little more quickly.

Trails for walking and hiking

You don't have to go far in Anchorage for a taste of the outdoors. Always make sure you take bear spray and are alert to moose and other wild animals, even in town!
This walking/biking/disc golf loving park is a great place to wander. They have an app to make sure you don't get lost!

Heading north on the Glenn Highway you'll see a prompt to head up to Arctic Valley. In the fall, this is one of the best places to pick blueberries. Head all the way up to the ski resort, past the overlook. Great trails up there to hike around too.

If you're heading to Girdwood, check out the lower Winner Creek trail and hand tram. It's a pretty mellow hike/walk and you get to pull yourself across winner creek.

Whittier is a super unique town! Everyone lives in the same building (or mostly everyone). You have to check the tunnel times (you have to drive through the mountain on the train tracks to get there). You can go fishing out of Whittier or sea kayaking!

If you're up for a beautiful drive, great views, a chance to see moose and bears, a drive over Hatcher Pass is great. You can also like to pick blueberries in the fall here.

A short drive outside of Anchorage will take you to Eklunta Lake. Spectacular views. There's a great youtube video of someone skipping a rock on Eklutna lake when it's frozen.
