Photographers dream. Rising from the heart of the Tularosa Basin is one of the world's great natural wonders - the glistening white sands of New Mexico. Great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand have engulfed 275 square miles of desert, creating the world's largest gypsum dunefield. This is a great place for kids who love to play outside. Bring sleds, frisbees, water and a blanket to lay down on. This is a wonderful sight to see, not to miss if you are in the area.

Photographers dream. Rising from the heart of the Tularosa Basin is one of the world's great natural wonders - the glistening white sands of New Mexico. Great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand have engulfed 275 square miles of desert, creating the world's largest gypsum dunefield. This is a great place for kids who love to play outside. Bring sleds, frisbees, water and a blanket to lay down on. This is a wonderful sight to see, not to miss if you are in the area.
Cloud-Climbing Trestle Trail, sometimes referred to as the Mexican Canyon Trestle Trail for the landmark feature at its end, offers a moderately challenging, but beautiful, climb through the Trestle Recreation Area in Cloudcroft. The mile-long trail begins at a replica railway depot and follows the former Alamogordo and Sacramento Mountain Railroad. Its first half-mile is paved; the remainder is a dirt pathway.
As it winds through crisp firs and pines, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the White Sands dunes and distant San Andreas Mountains. Along the way, it passes the remains of the "S" trestle, which once contained two 30-degree curves. A sign displays a photograph of what the bridge once looked like.

Awesome barbeque joint. Home Made pies and cobblers and sandwiches. All hand made sides are made fresh every early morning. Come and check out them out located 9,000 feet above the stress level in beautiful Lincoln National Forest. Be prepared though there is usually is line running out the door most days!

Daves Cafe' has a diverse menu with something for everyone. Burgers, classic deli sandwiches, fresh salads, hand cut fries, shakes, smoothies and vegetarian options as well. Great option for dinner if you are looking for something easy but with some variety.

Great coffee shop if you can catch it open. It is open Wed-Sun but the hours change for each day. It is a cute quiet spot to drink coffee and work on your laptop or read a book.

I love this place for breakfast. Have to get up early to get first choice of all the best pastries and baked goods. Our favorites are the croissants, pistachio bread, and green chili cheese rolls!

This is a ski resort during winter but they have some incredible wood fired pizza here during the summer months. I love to go here over the weekend when I want something fast and good. This spot is a locals secret when we want pizza or wings without the wait of the brewery in town. Definitely worth the short drive it takes to get here and did I mention how beautiful it is up here?!

U.S. 82This is a ski resort during winter but they have some incredible wood fired pizza here during the summer months. I love to go here over the weekend when I want something fast and good. This spot is a locals secret when we want pizza or wings without the wait of the brewery in town. Definitely worth the short drive it takes to get here and did I mention how beautiful it is up here?!

This is Cloudcroft Ice Rink, the Southwest's only natural ice rink. Located in the heart of Cloudcroft, this outdoor rink is covered, has an indoor fireplace to keep warm and even has a snack bar equipped with hot chocolate. The ice rink is open seasonally as long as the weather is chilly enough for the ice to stay frozen. And, the best part is that the activity is very affordable with skate rentals starting at $6.

Here is a great place to start a day of hiking. There are public restrooms here and a bunch of trailheads that begin here. They are all short and kid friendly. I highly recommend!
