No Signboard has been operating since the late 1970s, and is definitely a household name among the locals for serving some of the freshest seafood in Singapore. While you’ll be paying for food at a more expensive price, you won’t be disappointed by the quality and freshness of the seafood offered here! Signature dishes include their white pepper or black pepper crab and cereal prawns!

JB Ah Meng is an outdoor-seated hawker centre that is most definitely one of our favourites amongst this list! Noted by the world renowned Michelin Guide as one of the best places for good value food (also a recipient of the Bib Gourmand award!) JB Ah Meng serves up delicious ‘zi char’ (a local term used to describe a wallet-friendly, home-style cooking!) including white pepper crab, salted egg prawns, and their specialty, “JB San Luo Meehoon”. If there is one place you should go for seafood, it is definitely this place!

This dim sum joint is a popular haunt amongst the locals because its open 24 hours daily! Some popular dishes include: o ‘Chee Cheong Fun’, a steamed rice roll that encases different fillings depending on your choice. Options include ‘char siew’ (roast pork), and prawns. o Century Egg Porridge – absolutely divine if you’re a fan of century egg! o Lotus leaf glutinous rice o Carrot cake - you would think this would be dessert but it’s actually a savoury dish made out of radishes!

Recently renovated, Ho Kee Pau offers traditional Cantonese dim sum at affordable prices! Originally a traditional steamed bun (Pau) manufacturer, Ho Kee Pau has grown into a food and snacks chain that sells local fare including 'Wanton Mee’ (a noodle dish that can either be ordered dry or with soup, together with pieces of ‘char siew’ roast pork and fried dumplings). We recommend trying the Wanton Mee, together with generous spoonfuls of their homemade chilli! Another dish that we love is the prawn wrapped in deep-fried beancurd skin. We have to refrain ourselves from gobbling up too many of them!

‘Yong He’ is a well-known eating house serving traditional Taiwanese style foods, including the thick and starchy oyster noodles, fried pastry filled with meat floss, and of course, soya bean milk with fried dough fritters! If you’re walking from Aljunied MRT to our place, you’ll definitely pass by this eating house! Located at the end of our street (Geylang Lorong 24A), this 24 hour eatery is the perfect place to have breakfast before setting out, or even for a late night snack! (Did we also mention they have one of the best tea eggs in town? Their braised hard boiled eggs are a must try!)

A recent addition to Geylang, the Skewer Bar grills up a wide variety of meats, seafoods and vegetables at pocket friendly prices! Some of our favourite foods include the enoki mushroom with bacon, the lightly grilled oysters (comes in limited quantities!), and definitely the grilled stingray with sambal!(“Sambal stingray” also happens to be a dish that is offered in most hawker centres and is definitely something that is worth a try) Because of how near this place is from our place (less than a minute away from our place!), it has quickly become our favourite supper spot!

This traditional shop serves up a delicious bowl of Bak Kut Teh, or pork bone soup, for the uninitiated. While Bak Kut Teh usually comes in two variations (the peppery Teochew style, or the Klang herbal version), this shop offers the latter. The pork ribs are tender and infused with the herbal flavours that have been simmered in the soup for hours. We recommend adding some beancurd skin that complements the soup extremely well!

Touted as the best Beef 'Kway Teow' in Singapore, this noodle dish is doused in rich and thick beef gravy, mixed with thick slices of tender beef. Hands down one of our favourite dishes around! The same hawker centre also serves up an amazing frog leg porridge cooked in a mini claypot in two variations, a spicy version with dried chilli and dark soy sauce, or the sweeter version of ginger and spring onion. We recommend the spicy version if you’re a fan of spice!

This cosy and quaint cafe is filled with regulars who love the home-baked pastries, brunch fare and great coffee served up by the Brawn & Brains crew. If you have a sweet tooth, we recommend the Earl Grey Croissant! Otherwise, their Oven Baked Molten Eggs are an instant fave!

Monkswood is a cafe/bar that offers home-cooked British fare (think pies, fish and chips and Sunday roasts!) together with many different beers on tap. They also offer a ‘happy hour’, but do call in to check when it’s on! We personally recommend the Fish Pie, but we’ve heard that most of the other pies they serve are delicious as well!

The Tuckshop is a mix between a cafe and a bar, offering a range of artisanal craft beers and the usual bar grub. One of our favourites is the Ribeye Tataki (washed down with one of their beers!)
