Prepare yourself - you have to eat a lot here! Very meaty, heavy meals but probably there is nothing which you can't find on their menu. In the summer time you can sit outside and after the dessert you can go for a romantic walk along the Danube.

If you have a morning coffee emergency it is definitely the right place to start the day. They usually have a selection of pastries and sandwiches, as well. Try the "kakaós csiga" - it is a Hungarian classic, yam! And it is literally two minutes away from our apartment.

Well, it is by no means the trendiest place in town - quite the opposite but this is where its charm lies. A very traditional patisserie at the corner of Lövölde tér - which reminds me of my childhood. Traditional Hungarian cakes, ice cream by scoop and delicious savory pastries called "pogácsa" (like savory scones). It is also next to a playground so a perfect afternoon out with the kids while you are staying in our flat which is only a minute away from this spot.

It has actually been recommended by one of our guests as a very nice place. We haven't tried it ourselves - but a couple staying in our apartment was very satisfied with the service and with the food here. 15 mins walk from the flat or take the M1 underground and get off at the stop Bajcsy-Zsilinszky street and walk to the restaurant.

VakVarjú is a chain of restaurants which advertises itself as one of the most kidfriendly places in Budapest. They have restaurants in Pest and Buda, as well - I linked in the one which is probably the closest to the apartment. But it is worth to check out their website for the location of the other branches - they have kid's corners and at certain times they have nannies too to look after and entertain the children. The food is not my favourite personally but it's perfectly pleasant and tasty. The service is excellent and a very nicely decorated place.

Rosenstein has become a very popular choice for both locals and tourists in the last few years - they serve traditional Hungarian and Jewish food, as well. The food is very good which is definitely worth the visit, even if it's a bit further away from most of the tourist attractions. I have just re-visited this earlier local favourite. Frici papa kifőzdéje has become a statement in the past few years - and for my biggest surprise it has been packed with tourists last week when I popped in for a quick Hungarian lunch. It's quick and tasty with typical Hungarian dishes which brings back childhood memories - and it deifintely has a local feel. I first discovered it when I moved to the area 20 years ago - but back then it was visited mostly by residents in the area. Lots has changed - but not the good food and the efficient service. No need to book, just turn up and they will find you a table to sit.

One of the poshest ruin pubs in town - looks quite glamorous so if you fancy some drinks I would go for a couple of hours just to see it. I think you can book a table which is highly recommended. Only downside that the food is not glamorous despite the queues outside which is a common feature of the place. So I would suggest to plan your dinner somewhere else but enjoy a few drinks here before.

Well, this is probably one of the weirdest places I have heard of. A friend told me about it yesterday so we haven't tried it yet ourselves - but I thought it is stg I must share with our guests as a possible program with children. Its website says that it is the first place in the world which offers this concept - and apart from being amusing and fun for the kids, the "project" has educational and therapeutical aim, too. Apparently it is so popular that on weekday afternoons and at weekends you need to book.
