The name says everything, Italian food with focus on pizzas. Why Capone? According to local lore, Al used to visit Fort Myers. An old-timer told me Capone rented the yellow stucco house on 2714 Providence St. I couldn't verify that one.

A favorite place for the girls at lunch time. Guys like it too. Located in a bungalow from the 20's. Great selection of teas, served in very cute English tea cups. The food is perfect for lunch. I'm there for at least once a week for the house quiche and salad.

Serving southern home cooking since 1952. "Modest joint known for Southern staples made with ingredients from the nearby farmer’s market." An unassuming, very popular, and guarded secret with the locals. Don't be surprised to find a long table with a bunch of firefighters enjoying a meal.

Don't let the name fool you. It is a clean, wide 1.4 mile boardwalk, where you can see a lot of birds, bromeliads, orchids, and an alligator if you are lucky. It is a 3,500 acres cypress swamp preserve. Unfortunately loggers cleared most of the old cypress, and a lot of what you see is relatively new growth. But some of the beautiful old cypress can be found. To know more about it go to http://floridahikes.com/six-mile-cypress. It's a good info site

My favorite Sunday morning activity: go to Barefoot Beach early. You can walk the beach 2 ways . First way: Go on Bare Beach Blvd all the way to the end to the State Park. It opens at 8am, and admission is $8. Park the car and walk the beach north towards Doc's Beach House and have breakfast, then walk back and find a place close to the car, get a towel and enjoy a peaceful morning. Normally I get out when the crowds arrive by 10:30. If you do it during the week, it's much less crowded. Also enjoy Barefoot Beach Blvd, with its beautiful winter mansions worth several millions. You cannot trespass but you can look from the car. Second way is to park at Bonita Beach Park, pay $2 / hour, and walk south towards Bare Foot Beach. Same beach as Bonita, just a different name and different county.

Bonita Beach Park attracts a lively crowd of active beach-goers with all sorts of water sports rentals and beach volleyball. The parking is $2/hr, very clean and nice facility. If you want more tranquil beach just turn left, walk south towards Barefoot Beach, same beach different name and county. Going north on Hickory Blvd there are about ten additional smaller public beach accesses, with free but limited parking. And no access to restrooms and showers you find on Bonita Beach Park

Lighthouse Beach Park due to the ease access, it's often the most crowded beach on Sanibel. This is the first beach visitors pass once they have crossed the causeway from the mainland. Due to its location a large numbers of shells wash up, but they are often picked off quickly, leaving only the most common varieties. If you can get to this beach after a storm, you may get some very interesting shells. That thing about the early bird getting the worm...

Located at the western tip of Sanibel Island along the channel between Sanibel and Captiva Island, Blind Pass Beach has strong currents and is NOT SAFE FOR SWIMMING. Those same currents, however, deposit large quantities of shells, making this small beach one of the most popular with shellers. There is parking, but no other amenities here.

Turner Beach sits across the water from Blind Pass Beach, occupying the southern end of Captiva Island just off the bridge over Blind Pass. From Fort Myers along the Sanibel Causeway there are 2 islands, named simply "A" and "B" in the order they appear from the mainland. They total about 10 acres of sandy beach that are easily accessible from the road at several spots. Drivers can pull off almost anywhere on either island, from either side of the road, and as an added bonus, there is no parking fee. Popular for non-motorized water sports like stand up paddleboarding, kitesurfing, and kayaking. Fishing is also permitted here, and visitors are welcome to bring grills for use on the beach. No amenities other than parking there is no amenities on Island A, but Island B does have restrooms, picnic tables, and drinking fountains. Leashed dogs are welcome as well.

Halfway up Sanibel Island on the Gulf-facing shore, Gulfside City Park is a lnice place to catch some sun and waves. It's not a very crowded spot despite its location between resorts, making this a good choice for those who want a relaxing day at the beach. The park offers a large grassy area in addition to the white-sand shore, and plenty of parking. Park amenities include restrooms, an outdoor shower, picnic tables, and barbecue grills for public use.

Saving the best for last. Fort Myers Beach sits on a little barrier island, about 7 miles long, and the beach is great – wide, gradually sloping, and packed sand, which can be a little harder to walk on for a a few miles like I do. But I'm older. This is the place with most bars, lots of places to rent kayaks, paddle boards, and jet skis. It is a fun place with lots of things to do.
