This is a great local restaurant located in a nearby Historic Bend neighborhood. They have really nice salads with local greens (if you happen to be a summer visitor) and excellent pasta and pizza. They also serve one of the best breakfasts around. Expect a long line if you happen there at peak dinner hours.

This is a higher end restaurant with some of the best food in the city. I've never had a dish I didn't like, Mama G's salad is great, burgers are fantastic, the Ahi Tuna is to die for. Great cocktails and don't miss dessert!

I'm not a huge meat eater but sometimes I just feel like a steak.... This is where I go when that craving strikes and I try to encourage the craving on Mondays when they have a steak and salad special. Don't hold me to this.... I'm not positive the deal is still happening, but I am positive that they have a nice steak and salad.

Fantastic Thai food at reasonable prices. I love the eclectic feel of this restaurant. It's very casual and has smaller back tables or larger tables for big parties. They also do a good job of serving up food quickly even when they're pretty crowded.

Super casual, eclectic blend of food including some gluten free and vegan options. Highly recommended if you want something a little different... Ordering happens at the counter and sometimes there's a bit of a line but it moves fast and servers bring out food to your table.

Higher end great sushi. This is a nice place for a date/special occasion (in my book). I was impressed by the freshness of ingredients, the creative use of different ingredients and the beautiful presentation.... far exceeds the average sushi.

If you're looking for a more casual but delicious meal, Pizza Mondo is hard to beat. The owners have roots in New York, so this isn't Papa John's..... and after a trip to Manhattan, my daughter and I decided we liked Pizza Mondo pizza more than any other. They also make a reasonable green salad.

The owners have roots in New York, so this isn't Papa John's..... and after a trip to Manhattan, my daughter and I decided we liked Pizza Mondo pizza more than any other. They also make a reasonable green salad.
This is THE MOST casual on the list. It's a taco stand with pretty good margaritas AND it's a short stagger to the studio. I'm fond of their tacos .... so far all I haven't had one I didn't like. And, it's super affordable!!

I'm adding JCs East to the list just in case you feel the need to go for a drive, or... if you went to JCs Downtown location to find a line out the door. Situated just inside the main entrance of the Athletic Club of Bend, this is a great option if Downtown Bend is too crowded and you're too hungry to wait. They have a nice menu of American cuisine with great salads, really nice main dishes and great desserts. I've never been disappointed here.

You're unlikely to find this unless someone points you to it.. It's tiny and in an alley and because of that, it's one of my favorite coffee shops. They have nice pastries and excellent coffee.

Hard to beat this location.... close to the river behind Wall St. They have coffee in the mornings and you can transition to beer in the afternoon without leaving your riverside location.

Easy walk and decent breakfast burrito.... baked goods also available. This is not the most amazing coffee you'll ever have but it is a local company and it is ORGANIC. The food is reasonably priced and it's a good option if you want something simple and pretty healthy.

Crux is everything in one.... brewery, food, kombucha, food carts, tables, picnic area, cornhole games, huge open field for kids to run around. It's also a very easy walk from the studio and the parking is tight enough that it's worth the walk.

Immersion makes my cut because I think they have a couple of nice craft beers, their food is consistently good and the location is super easy but slightly off the beaten path (so slightly less crowded) and the staff is always great.

Local owner is a really great guy. A full bar and a simple menu AND OBVIOUSLY.... pool tables. This is a nice place to hang out with friends and unlike much of Bend, it's open late every day: 12pm-2am

It's almost silly to list this here because it basically can't be missed but the river trail IS worth mentioning as it's quite long and worth walking in full.. If you really want a long walk/hike, get on the river trail at Meadow Camp and 7 miles (or so... one way!) later, you will find yourself at Benham Falls. Okay, maybe on a bike then!

You can continue on and complete a loop around the entire Smith Rock formation for a (approx) 6 mile hike. The hike up Misery Ridge is steep and is aptly named... amazing views of The Monkey at the top.

You can continue on and complete a loop around the entire Smith Rock formation for a (approx) 6 mile hike. The hike up Misery Ridge is steep and is aptly named... amazing views of The Monkey at the top.
Nice walk, lots happening, good people watching... or grab your bathing suit and join in.

This was the first hike I did when I arrived in Bend, 25 years ago. Locals USE this spot because it can be accessed even on the worst of winter days and it's in town, so efficient. When you summit, which you will after 10 to 25 min (depending on your pace), you'll understand the other reason that locals hike this so often... 360 views of the surrounding mountains, desert, etc. The location and butte itself are otherwise unimpressive. Try this combo.... Jackson's Corner east (or Backporch on Greenwood) and Pilot Butte on return (or vise versa).
