Port Nepean National Park is a ‘must visit’ Mornington Peninsula location, not in the least because of its great walking trails. Combining vibrant natural landscapes with interesting local history, Port Nepean also happens to have some of the best views on the Mornington Peninsula (which really is saying something!) Park at the Point Nepean carpark and take a walk up to Fort Nepean, considered one of Australia’s best major fort complexes, or embark on a stroll to Cheviot Hill, Eagles Nest, London Bridge, or the Quarantine Station.

Situated between Arthurs Seat and Cape Schanck, Greens Bush is the largest remnant of bushland on the Mornington Peninsula. The area contains a variety of vegetation communities and is a wildlife haven, making it an excellent place for nature walking. Peaceful surroundings and the natural beauty of the bush make the area excellent for walking, picnicking and observing nature. Explore the walking tracks that weave through Greens Bush and discover the many different vegetation communities in the park - from eucalypt forests to fern gullies, heathlands and grasslands. There is lots of birdlife in Greens Bush. Look for wrens, honeyeaters, parrots and birds of prey such as the Black-shouldered Kite and Wedge-tailed Eagle. In the early morning or at dusk, you can often see kangaroos feeding in the open grasslands. Black Wallabies prefer the forest and are well camouflaged in the shadows with their darker coat. However, most of the mammals in the park are nocturnal. As the light fades, listen for the soft twittering of Ringtail Possums or Sugar Gliders. The Little Forest Eptesicus Bat makes a higher-pitched call as it searches for insects, usually eaten on the wing. Native wildlife is abundant in this area and is particularly visible early in the day and at dusk. This walk can be done in either direction or as part of the longer 26km Two Bays Trail. This beautiful circuit walk is located in a deep gully surrounded by native bushland vegetation including Eucalyptus forests. This walk is moderately difficult with hills and formed track offering views of the picturesque OT Dam which has a boardwalk around it. The main OT dam was built in 1934 by local men employed the OT Cordial Company (later to become Kia Ora Cordials) using horse drawn scoops with stone being carted for the wall/bank. Two dams were constructed for teh cordial companies irrigation purposes; this larger one in the timber above the property and a second smaller dam on Boundary Road (near where Collins Road is located). The company made a cordial called OT with chillies which is where the name OT came from. The business closed in the early 1940's probably due to lack of manpower due to the war. The walk is well sign posted and borders the Hillview Quarry. Leaving the Cape Schanck Visitor Area car park, follow the sealed Cape Schanck Road for 600m back towards Boneo Road. Turn left onto the dirt track which leads into the national park. Follow the walking track through coastal Moonah woodland towards Fingal and Gunnamatta Beach. A detour circuit walk provides access inland to Fingal Picnic Area car park, drinking water and toilets. Further north a side track leads to secluded Fingal beach via a long path of steep stairs. If you visit the beach, be sure to return to the high track as through access to Gunnamatta is difficult along the beach, especially at high tide. The main track passes through dense coastal vegetation with three spectacular lookouts along the way. When the track drops down onto the eastern end of Gunnamatta Beach, continue along the beach to the day visitor area containing the Surf Lifesaving clubhouse, car park and public toilets. This walk can be completed in either direction, and can be extended as part of the Coastal Walk. Start/Finish: Gravel tracks and sealed road plus sand walking along the beach. Remember to return on the high track as through access along the beach is difficult at high tide. Swimming is dangerous unless lifesavers are present. Crossing from one side of the peninsula to the other, this walk starts at the Western Sister headland of Sullivan Bay, Sorrento, then takes you through a Coastal Moonah Woodland habitat and the Tuckey Track Bushland Reserve, past Diamond Bay to finish at St Paul's Lookout at Bass Strait. The walk is mostly flat, with gently undulating sections, with a steep rise to St Paul's Lookout. The Tuckey Track is an interesting walk through history as it follows in the footsteps of Lieutenant James Tuckey who wrote 'An Account of a Voyage to Establish a Colony at Port Phillip'. This account provided valuable information about the convict settlement and the landscape in 1804. Millionaires Walk features priceless bay views and the chance to quietly peruse some highly-priced private architecture. This stunning cliff top walk has historic significance as it was the first time the Union Jack was used to claim possession of Australia. The breathtaking water views across Port Phillip Bay to the Bellarine Peninsula, Melbourne and Mount Dandenong are amazing. Also you will get an insight into how Melbourne's elite spend time at their summer mansions. Millionaires Walk makes up a small part of the Sorrento Portsea Artists’ Trail, with four of the fourteen sites that comprise the trail located along Millionaires Walk. Paintings by Sir Arthur Streeton, Arthur Boyd and Ray Hodgkinson are displayed along the walk. Located not far from Point King Road is a white rig station and stone monument - this is the place where on the 9th March 1802, Acting Lieutenant John Murray, commander of the 'HMAS Lady Nelson' took possession of Point King, later to be renamed Port Phillip Bay, in the name of His Sacred Majesty George III of Great Britain and Ireland. It was the first time the Union Jack was used in Australia for this purpose. The Moonah Links Golf Resort is the largest golf tourism development in recent Victorian history and consists of two world class courses - the Open Course and the Legends Course. In addition, a fully integrated Golf clubhouse provides seven modern conference facilities with plenty of natural light, 75 deluxe Bedrooms and Suite, Spike Bar, Members' Lounge, Pebbles Restaurant as well as men's and ladies' locker and change rooms. 'The Championship Course' at Moonah Links is the first ever 18 holes built and prepared for a national championship, with exceptional viewing platforms for spectators. It was the venue for the 2003 Australian Open and is one of the longest courses in Australia, and probably in the world in this category. In contrast to the Open Course which was purpose built to challenge the modern champion, the Legends Course is a more friendly golfing experience for players of all ages and abilities.
