Diocletian's Palace is one of the best-preserved monuments of Roman architecture in the world. The Emperor's palace was built as a blend of luxurious villas - a mansion and a Roman military camp (castrum), divided into four parts of two main streets. The southern part of the Palace was in this scheme for the emperor, his apartment and the appropriate state and religious ceremony, while the northern part was for the Imperial guard - army, service, storage, and the like. The palace is a rectangular building (about 215 x 180 meters) with four large towers on the corners, doors on each of the four sides and four small towers on the walls.

Dioklecijanova Diocletian's Palace is one of the best-preserved monuments of Roman architecture in the world. Trg Franje Tuđmana Prokurative (Trg Republike) is a large square situated west of Riva, like Venetian St. Mark's Square, surrounded by three non-Renaissance buildings with arches, and the square has its name that most people know it. The square is only open to the south, providing a wonderful view of the Port and the River.
