There may be alligators, but I've never seen any, but always swim with company. Great trails with remains of former home and graveyard. Primitive camping. Picnic area and playground. Restored wetlands. Used to be celery fields. The highest point in flat Sarasota, made from soil dredged to reclaim the wetlands. Beautiful views. Great for birding. Audubon Society Center on premises. (10 minutes from house)
