Food Scene

Craft beer is the focus here but great wines are also available in the quirky design of Baladin. Whilst very much respecting traditional flavours and food production techniques, the aperitivi with snacks laid out on the bar, a great variety of burgers and a delicious menu provide an alternative to other local eateries. Special cultural menus are offered at different times throughout the year, we can guarantee their Aussie meat pie is amazing! Often kicking on until late in the evening, both inside and outside (next to the river) seating options are available. Bookings recommended but early eaters can often walk in. Closed Mondays, usually open from 18:00 Address: Piazza Savona, 2, 12074 Cortemilia CN Tel: +39 0173 821616

Whislt Emilio and Janeth grow much of their own produce, they extensively resource other items from local and sustainable producers. The result is an absolutely delicious offering of traditional dishes delivered with Janeth's innovatory twist. Emilio's passion for wine always leads to great recommendations with your meal, and their trolley of locally sourced seasonal cheeses (3 levels of cheese!) is a must, especially during spring and summer. A fine dining treat, bookings essential. At time of writing, they are open 7 days a week from 12:30. Outside summer hours they will have a day of closure so it may be worth checking. The King of La torta di nocciole! The local hazelnut cake at its best. A family run traditional pasticceria, you will often see Signor Conobbio making sure everyone is happy. Savoury pastries, foccacia and sweet treats are delicious with coffee or perhaps an Aperol Spritz, Prosecco or wine. Homemade gelati is highly recommended or perhaps breakfast of coffee and made on the spot cannoli appeals more. A great meeting point for locals with a real buzz Friday mornings, (market day). They close for lunch but are open morning and afternoon (from 15:00). In summer, sit outside under umbrellas, or in the shady internal courtyard. In winter, its cosy and welcoming under the arched brick ceilings and pillars inside. Closed Mondays. Address: Piazza Oscar Molinari, 11, 12074 Cortemilia CN Tel:+39 0173 81262

A quick trip down the road for your daily bread....and maybe a brioche or two? But also choose from the best foccacia (the tuna one or the onion one are favourites!) and traditional biscuits and hazelnut cake. On weekends, the display of little pastries and biscuits are amazing, it's impossible to leave without a tray for afternoon tea. The really hard part is choosing what to have. A small selection of local Grappa, honey and hazelnuts too. If you want brioche for breakfast, make sure you get there before 08:30 a.m. You can also place orders the day before to make sure you don't miss out. Closed Mondays and Sunday afternoon. GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS! A major plus with da Frankino is they cook gluten free dishes including pizza and dessert. The gluten free pizzas are delicious! And, unlike most places, there are usually several different gluten free desserts on offer. Their normal wood-fired pizza are pretty good too. It's not always necessary to book but can be a good idea if you have your heart set on going here. Closed Mondays, usually opens at 5pm or 5:50pm, earlier than other pizzerias. Delicious pizza! And also amazing homemade desserts (ask the staff to find our which ones are fatto in casa!) It can be a little tricky to find....Look for the main restaurant on the street and walk through the large car park on the left of the restaurant down below the back of the building....the pizzeria is tucked away at the back. Very limited outside seating. But the pizza well worth it. Enjoy local wine from Canonica winery with your pizza. Addres: Via Umberto Maddalena, 21, 12050 Torre Bormida CN Tel:+39 0173 828200
