Food Scene

Lovely view from the rooftop and nice little menu with fresh ingredients. Perfect for a quiet lunch or a little break while touring the medina. It can get quite busy during peak lunch hour (12h to 14h) so keep that in mind to avoid waiting for a table.

Nice place to have breakfast or lunch with a young, modern vibe. The place also offers plenty of cultural activities such as storytelling, traditional dance and music and cooking classes. You can sit indoors or enjoy the sun on the rooftop. Prices are very reasonable and they have a staple camel burger!

This is a lovely Riad in the medina that also has restaurant open for non-residents and a heated swimming pool. They have a Sunday brunch for 295dh per person including access to the heated swimming pool (excluding drinks). Very nice atmosphere, friendly staff and lovely food. Plus it is a useful reference point to tell a driver where to be dropped off (only about 100m walking from the door).

This is a very fancy place in swanky hotel (Mandarin Oriental), but it is worth every penny. The setting is stunning, the service is one of best in town and the (chinese) food is to die for. Great for a night out or that special occasion.

Some of the best traditional Moroccan food is served here. This is one of the oldest hotels in the city with a beautiful decoration, impeccable service and a menu that is both moroccan and international. Not to miss!

Drinks & Nightlife

The atmosphere is rich in moroccan details and has a very comprehensive drinks menu. They also offer food but I find it overly priced for something not overly interesting. Good to enjoy a drink at sunset or to finish a night out with your better half or among friends.

This a great fish restaurant with a well stocked bar and live music. You can have a meal or sit on the bar area with a drink and enjoy the free tapas. The atmosphere is lively but relaxed and prices are correct for Marrakesh standards.

Sightseeing

Try to be there first thing in the morning (it opens at 9h) or to be the last of the day (it closes at 17h), otherwise you'll encounter lines to see the tombs in the royal room (the ones belonging to former rules of Morocco). Independently of when you go, you'll always be able to see the other (lesser) tombs, understand how they all face the same direction and catch a glimpse of traditional Moroccan interior design.

This palace is mostly ruins, but even so it gives an idea of the gigantic place it once was and it has been used a couple of times as scenario for Hollywood productions. Plus it only cost 10dh to enter. It often host exhibitions and shows too.

Although is hosts a nice, little collection of handcraft items, personally, I find the true interest of the place lies in its beautiful architecture. Designed as a true Riad with a lovely, fresh garden in the courtyard and a fountain in the middle, it is interesting to get lost in the details of this Riad's interior. Entrance fee of 10dh. Not as known as other places so tends to be very quiet.

You're bound to cross this famous square at some point during your trip, so no need to make a destination out of it. There is always some sort of entertainment, day or night, but it is definetely around sunset that things become interesting. It is enjoyed by locals and tourists alike so expect a crowd if you come here in the evening time. If you want to try one of the food stalls, I would recommend number 14 (best fresh fried fish).

Shopping

This shop has a fine selection of Moroccan style clothes and accessories and has been visited often by international stars. It is tucked away in a little alley and you need to ring the bell to get in but once inside, there is a well of good quality moroccan articles. Tip: Call in advance to let them know you want to come and have a look.

This is one of the places that more ressembles an Ali Baba's Cavern. Behind a seemingly uninteresting wooden door, lies floor upon floor of all sorts of Moroccan handcrafts and antiques. Bonus: you're free to roam around and browse without having anyone trying to sell you something. Just talk to someone on the ground floor if you are interested in something.

Arts & Culture

This place is also tucked away in a dead end alley and you need to ring the bell to be let in. It is open from 10h to 19h and you can have lunch or just a break from the hustle and bustle. It is a literary cafe with an art gallery (there is always some exhibition going on) and they often host small cultural events (openings or local culture ones). The best part of the place, though, is that is a renovated house from the 16th century and you get the feeling of how people lived back then.

Entertainment & Activities

The best golf course of Marrakesh, Morocco and Africa. If you play golf, this is the one course in Marrakesh you should not miss. Rental clubs available as well as caddies and buggies. During peak season (November and February through April) make sure to request a tee time well in advance. There is a nice restaurant on site with fabulous views over the mountains.
