Food Scene

Delicious coffee drinks, teas, and breakfast. One of our favorite pimento cheese appetizers. The beautiful Glenn Miller Gardens are right outside, a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the outdoors, the old-fashioned train cars, a game of corn hole, or read a book.

Great coffee, hometown atmosphere, friendly service, and the best breakfasts! Rated #3 out of around 688 restaurants on Trip Advisor. Their hours are 6:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 6:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturday. The food is delicious! It's less than a five-minute drive from the house.

Locally owned, provides bread to shops all around Chattanooga, smells heavenly, great ambiance. Great place for breakfast or lunch or to buy a delicious, fresh loaf of bread to take home. Known for their croissants and paninis, too. Plus, their slogan is, "We love to knead, we knead to love."

Everyone who comes to visit us in Chattanooga, we definitely take them to Sugar's for dinner. It's a casual atmosphere, sixties music playing in the background, the smell of smoked barbecue, and a spectacular view. Seating is available on the porch or indoors. Outdoors has a view that can't be beat. Big heaters are set up for chilly days and fans for hot, humid days. They serve old-fashioned smoked ribs, brisket, and chicken. Each table has a variety of around six different sauces for your meat, including sweet, hot, and everything in between. Usually the waitress explains all the sauces. Super good with a cold beer or soft drink. Not sure about desserts, we're always too full!

So I don't usually indulge in fried chicken because, well... it's fried food. But after hearing about how good Champy's was and seeing the place packed with people every time I drove past, I decided to give it a try. Glad I did! Best friend chicken I've ever had. I couldn't even leave the skin, it tasted so delicious. Sides are delicious, too. I don't go too often, but when I want to treat myself and indulge a little, Champy's is at the top of the list!

The Feed Table is in an old feed and seed building, with a cozy industrial feel. Whether it's dinner, lunch, or brunch, the food is amazing! It's family friendly and also has a large craft beer selection. The outdoor seating is delightful, and indoor seating accommodates gatherings large and small. Prime meal times can be a bit of a wait, but the bar is available. And we find once we're at our table enjoying the enticing eats and distinctive drinks, the worth is well worth the wait! Parking is available on the street and a lot on Main Street.

If you have a hankering for Mexican, Taco Mamacita is my favorite. It's actually Mexican/Peruvian fare. They offer a unique selection of tacos, including Po Boy Shrimp, Caribbean Jerk, a Gyro Taco, plus your more typical Mexican restaurant dishes. The tacos are soft shell, and all the ingredients taste fresh. The beans on the side are flavorful and delicious. Great margaritas, too. Taco Mamacita is located near the Frasier/Cherokee area, down the street from the Publix, and just north of downtown over the bridge. They have a parking lot which is makes parking less of a chore. Or maybe take a Lyft if you want to imbibe in a couple margaritas or Tecates!

Sightseeing

The view is beautiful! There's a lookout point where The Incline reaches the end of the line. Point Park is right down the road, which also has a beautiful view.

Walnut Street Bridge, a/k/a The Walking Bridge is delightful. Such a scenic walk! Beautiful view of downtown, the river, and the beautiful mountains all around. Coolidge Park is right there along the river. So many delightful shops and unique restaurants on both sides of the bridge to explore.

Getting Around

Okay, this may actually fall under nightlife and drinks, rather than getting around. And I've never actually done this but have spotted buses being powered by beer-drinking 'pedalers' heading down Market Street. Looks like fun!

It's four dollars for all day parking in the Parking Garage next to the Chattanooga Choo Choo, 1400 South Market Street. The CARTA is an electric shuttle that's free and it goes down Market Street to the aquarium. Makes a few stops along the way but you don't have to worry about finding parking everywhere.

I personally have never done this but I see the bike racks and signs around. Looks like it would be fun and practical.

Arts & Culture

The Market isn't really historical, but it's full of locally made crafts and foods, so I would count that as arts and culture. Vendors sell everything from beautiful local photography, handcrafted jewelry, carved wood, paintings, pottery and more, to seasonal fruits and veggies, organic meats, local honey, jams and jellies, homemade breads and treats, to the food trucks full of great local fare. You can even get a beer or maybe even a Bloody Mary.

Shopping

Lots of unique gift ideas, candles, nicknacks, seasonal decor, scarves as well as art works from local artists, handcrafted items. Owner is super friendly. It's right down the street from the Clumpy's Ice Cream, down the street and around the corner from the Choo Choo, and next door to Southside Antiques.

A little pricey but a really nice grocery store. Everything's fresh, parking is easy, great variety, and the employees are super helpful.
