Not everyone's favourite, but if you would like to try Pie and mash it is a traditional London working-class food, originating in London. Pie, mash and eel shops have been in London since the 19th century M.Manze was established in 1902 by Michele Manze - the present owners' Grandfather. They serve traditional Pie and Mash and Eels (jellied or stewed), in authentic surroundings. At Manzes, we still use the same recipes today for the pies and liquor as were used in 1902, the only changes made have been to improve quality and to meet the higher food standards of today.

Josè Pizarro worked in the award – winning Meson de Doña Filo in Madrid before coming to London José Tapas Bar was my first solo venture: a tapas and sherry bar on Bermondsey Street in London. It’s small and cosy, inspired by the bustling tapas bars around La Boquería market in Barcelona and the traditional tapas bars in the hot, dusty towns and villages of Andalucía. The daily menu depends on what looks good at the market on the day. You’ll see a mix of new dishes as well as old favourites. We maintain a diverse wine and sherry list from both established and small producers of Spain. You will find wines and sherries here that you won’t see anywhere else. Come on down and have a pincho!

Bermondsey Street has been described the foodie mecca offering exceptional good restaurants and coffee houses making it a perfect location for The Watch House. The Watch House was built in the early 19th century and housed guards who protected the churchyard graves. Although it has received a total makeover we have decided to keep the initial name in order to preserve the local history. Luxury artisan coffee house in Bermondsey Street. Bermondsey Street is hardly short of places to eat. Here you can get great Pizza. The proprietors are long-time local artisan bakers from Italian decent, whose ovens are housed right across the road. Naturally, the bakery supplies Via Bermondsey with fresh bread and pastry, and the seriously good dough for their seriously proper pizzas, made according to time-honoured tradition the Neapolitan way. Many will dine here simply for the classic pizza, emerging from the oven with the charred, puffy crust that is the mark of the real Neapolitan pie. However, Via Bermondsey is more distinctly a continental European-influenced eatery with a wide ranging quality offering chalked up on the menu.

Afternoon Tea at Claridge’s Hotel, observing our nation’s culinary heritage for the best part of 150 years. For a century or more, our Executive Chefs have remained faithful to the classic combination of finger sandwiches, scones served warm, and sweet pastries. Our ingredients are painstakingly sourced, skilfully prepared and served fresh each day. The centrepiece of afternoon tea is, of course, the drink itself. Our wonderful tea connoisseur, Henrietta Lovell, has scoured the world to bring us delicious tea from small, little known producers from the four corners of the world. Hay's Galleria is named after its original owner, the merchant Alexander Hay, who acquired the property – then a brewhouse – in 1651.[1] In around 1840 John Humphrey Jnr acquired a lease on the property.[1] He asked William Cubitt (who was father-in-law to two of Humphrey's sons) to convert it into a 'wharf', in fact an enclosed dock, in 1856 and it was renamed Hay's Wharf.[1] During the nineteenth century, the wharf was one of the chief delivery points for ships bringing tea to the Pool of London.[1] At its height, 80% of the dry produce imported to London passed through the wharf, and on this account the Wharf was nicknamed 'the Larder of London'.

The Tower of London, officially Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London, is a historic castle located on the north bank of the River Thames in central London. It lies within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, separated from the eastern edge of the square mile of the City of London by the open space known as Tower Hill. It was founded towards the end of 1066 as part of the Norman Conquest of England. The White Tower, which gives the entire castle its name, was built by William the Conqueror in 1078 and was a resented symbol of oppression, inflicted upon London by the new ruling elite. The castle was used as a prison from 1100

The castle was used as a prison from 1100
City Hall is the Mayor of London's new headquarters and home to London's governing body, the London Assembly. Members of the public are allowed inside to visit the canteen. You can also book a walking talk of the building. The Mayor, not to be confused with the Lord Mayor of the City of London which is a ceremonial post, is publically elected every four years to manage the governance of Greater London. Opened in 2002, City Hall was designed by Sir Norman Foster who also designed the Gherkin Tower close by. Built on the site of the old Hay’s Wharf complex City Hall’s sweeping spherical shape makes it an environmentally friendly building.

Dennis Severs’ House at 18 Folgate Street, Spitalfields is more than just a time capsule. It is both a breathtaking and an intimate portrait of the lives of a family of Huguenot silk-weavers from 1724 to the dawn of the 20th Century. As you follow their fortunes through the generations, the sights, smells and sounds of the house take you into their lives. It was Dennis Severs’ intention that as you enter his house it is as if you have passed through the surface of a painting, exploring with your senses and imagination a meticulously crafted 18th Century world. Next to Borough Market. We believe there has been a church on this site since AD 606. There may well have been a church here even earlier. Southwark Cathedral is the oldest cathedral church building in London, and archaeological evidence shows there was Roman pagan worship here well before that. Significantly, Southwark stands at the oldest crossing point of the tidal Thames at what was the only entrance to the City of London across the river for many centuries. It is not only a place of worship but also of hospitality to every kind of person: princes and paupers, prelates and prostitutes, poets, playwrights, prisoners and patients have all found refuge here

The Clink Prison Museum is built upon the original site of The Clink Prison, which dating back to 1144 was one of England’s oldest and most notorious prisons. Spanning for over 600 years, it witnessed a remarkable amount of social and political change in England, and thus housed a multitude of sinners throughout its existence, including debtors, heretics, drunkards, harlots, and later religious adversaries. Positioned in the heart of modern day Southwark, the prison was situated in an area that has long been associated with more raucous, vivacious and unruly behaviour; it was the louder, ruder and wickeder neighbour to The City, and a place where Londoners sought entertainment.

Shakespeare's Globe is the complex housing a reconstruction of the Globe Theatre, an Elizabethan playhouse associated with William Shakespeare, in the London Borough of Southwark, on the south bank of the River Thames. The original theatre was built in 1599, destroyed by fire in 1613, rebuilt in 1614, and then demolished in 1644. The modern Globe Theatre reconstruction is an academic approximation based on available evidence of the 1599 and 1614 buildings. It is considered quite realistic, though contemporary safety requirements mean that it accommodates only 1400 spectators compared to the original theatre’s 3000.
