La Compania is a Jesuit church located at the Centro Histórico de Quito. The exterior cover of the temple, is carved entirely in volcanic gray stone, is considered one of the most important expressions of Spanish Baroque architecture in the American continent. The interior is completely covered with gold leaf. During the year there are special events. Concerts of the Sinfonica Metropolitana de Quito, etc. Daily tours in English and Spanish. TIP! Entry is $5, yet for an extra fee you can go to the rooftop to get great views of the San Francisco Plaza. A must see church!

Known to be the most beautiful church in all of South America (disputed, of course), La Compañía is not to be missed. It’s entire inside is made of thin sheets of real gold. It’s amazing!
