American bar for cocktails very expensive ( a long evenings drinking for two around £150 but comfortable and usually not crowded and never too noisy to hear your companion. Dress up a little. Ignore the cocktail menu and ask for what you want. Nice staff. Bar pianist. Bus 171, 68,176 to far side of Waterloo bridge then walk left into the Strand and its two minutes on your left stands behind little drive in .

The Beaufort bar at the Savoy offers an extremely luxurious experience yet also a comfortable, friendly treat. The drinks are sublime but reasonably affordable. (Try the Embankment Gardens cocktail!)
