Mt Wilson Fire Station

An alternative route through the Blue Mountains, this road is a favourite with motorcycle riders for the scenery. From Sydney, head north to the town of Richmond, where the road begins at the Hawkesbury River. Drive into the mountains through cute towns in apple-growing country—Kurrajong and Bilpin—before heading through classic Australian bush to Mt Tomah and Mt Wilson, where you’ll find grand gardens featured in the movie The Great Gatsby. No ride is complete without a stop at a roadhouse, and Pie In The Sky in Bilpin sells old-school apple pies made with locally grown fruit—they’re delish. You also need to stop at Bilpin’s retro Ampol service station, which has long since been abandoned but is very photogenic.
