Pizzaiolo, one of the area’s best Italian restaurants, operates as a coffee bar in the morning. It’s a neighborhood staple in Temescal and one of my favorite places to start the day. They have the best chai around because it’s made on the stove in the traditional way—they use an assam tea from us, and they add in fresh ginger and some other spices. The food is amazing, too—you can’t go wrong with the frittata or the ricotta toast for breakfast, and they have a pastry chef who’s amazing as well.

An institution and a wonderful restaurant that was an early and integral part of the Temescal food scene. Everything here is good; fresh in season organic local ingredients on a changing menu, great patio, home made tonics for their cocktails, everything intentional. Best pizza within walking distance if you like the wood fired Neapolitan style. They also sell provisions including delicious bread from the wood oven. In their words “a love letter to Northern California.”

Classic Italian pizzas that are great to share and couple with some strong drinks. Also a nice place to grab a croissant and do some work in the morning. During the summer on Wednesday nights they have outdoor movie night!
