A local beach that is great for swimming and surfing with a fantastic walking track. If you decide to take the track, Allow 2-3 hours there and back if go the whole way and take water and a snack. We always recommend it to our overseas visitors but ought to do it ourselves more often, it is incredibly beautiful and doesn't cost a thing. A great family walk but if you take littlies you need to hold their hands near the cliff edges.

Great beach in the summer and awesome coastal walks and tracks year round. Best access by car only. From Taylors Mistake - Godley Head walk: 3 hours return. The walkway passes historic military buildings with spectacular views of the city, New Brighton Beach and on a clear day the Southern Alps. Make sure you keep your eyes out to sea and on the rocks below - you may spot a seal, dolphin or even a whale
