Wonderfully decorated African mahogany , Raval gives you the authentic Basque, and Northern Spains traditional Tapas, and Pintxos. A typical light meal bar hopping in Spain. They are bread with a wide array of tasties on a skewer or toothpick attached to the bread. Great place for a convivial gathering with friends. Very popular with the locals.

Bar Raval is similar to its sibling restaurant Bar Isabel with a perpetually changing menu of Spanish tapas, but with a casual atmosphere that involves mostly standing room and a bar laden with pintxos. It’s another project of Grant van Gameren, who also has Eastern European pub Tennessee Tavern and mezcal-heavy bars El Rey and Pretty Ugly. Unlike these other places, though, Raval is open early til late for coffee and pastries up to cocktails and conservas.

The swooping mahogany interior is enough to signify this slice of Barcelona on college as one of Toronto's most unique drinking experiences at any hour. Open mid-morning to late, Raval's default atmosphere is bustling; hanging in the air is the temptation to cancel plans in favour of a copa of palo cortado and some smoked mackerel. Bartenders mix long-sipping, low-proof cocktails with a base of vermouth, sherry, or house-made amaro, which pack full-octane flavour but a lighter punch. The Velvet Thunder (Amontillado, Curacao, amaro, cucumber, mint, lemon, nutmeg) marries a mojito with the nutty, oxidized tang of Spain's cool-again fortified wine, forming an argument for revisiting the era of liquid lunch through a far more elegant - and dare I say responsible - lens.

This architectural gem is a stunning restaurant with delicious tapas. It's definitely a treat, with amazing cocktails and small plates - but always very busy, be ready to wait for a table.
