I have two drawing techniques to show that will make you realise YOU CAN DRAW.
Even if you have not drawn before, the training and experience I have of more than 20 years of teaching , will have results - I promise. This drawing session will give you a skill to practice later, by enjoying playing and experimenting.
We will make at least two finished drawings, likely to be four pieces to take home with you.
We will take a short walk to The Shady Pool at The Cedars where we will gather to draw amongst the 400 year old Eucaliptus trees.. the trees that Heysen drew!
The first drawings we do will be how to look at the subject - not the paper! Anyone can learn to do this.
Second I will show how to make a tonal drawing using Heysen favourite material, charcoal, i will show you how to draw with an Erasor!
I will provide materials, and sketching papers that you can take home.
I will show some examples of master drawings and send you the pages to your Airbnb Experience page online.
Finally we will have a look at Heysen drawings especially his charcoal originals in his famous studio.
Note ... Entry $15 ticket is purchased at The Cedars shop, it entitles you to come with me to do our drawing session, also afterwards to wander at leisure on a self guided tour that goes along a trail called the ARTIST WALK, you can also enter the HEYSEN STUDIO. 10am - 4pm.
Other things to note
Ticket shop/corona sanitisation required, info etc. Outdoor event, weather will no doubt determine if we can continue drawing - we will need to be prepared to move from the Shady Pool and work under a verandah. Cancelling due to bad weather / hot days possible. I will be in touch re weather prior.

I am an artist with a studio practice - I make artwork for exhibitions and for local galIeries especially in Hahndorf where I live. I have a BA Vis.Art. Flinders Uni, Adelaide Central School Art. I am a Fellow Royal.SA Society of Arts.
I have been tutoring more than twenty years with small groups about finding their own voice as they create art. I see amazing results from this and I love to share with many what I know.

We take a short 5 min walk into the 60 hectares of Hans Heysen Estate. We will stop at The Shady Pool a place of peaceful bush land to draw the 400 year old trees, trees that Hans Heysen drew.
Concluding with a visit to Heysen famous studio.

My partner & I thoroughly enjoyed the drawing lessons with Sheila! The location was magical and Sheila was an amazing instructor. She helped us explore our creative side. By the end of it, I truly felt I can draw too, so thank you, Sheila! You’ve given us a memorable experience :)

Sheila is a wonderful and extremely kindhearted host and I found the whole experience to be very special - learning a variety of drawing techniques in the trees and gardens that HH spent his time, while also learning about him and his family’s history; it truly captures the heart and the imagination of what life would have been like for the Heysen family!
