Svartagil, Básar 4B, West Iceland

Cozy, little and old cottage about 90min drive from Reykjavik and 30min from Borgarnes, close to the river Nordura. The view is magnificent. Svartagil is about 3 km from the main road nr. 1, on road nr. 528. It has two bedrooms, one with 1,40m bed and another with 1,20m. Bathroom with a shower, a fully equipped kitchen and living room. Contemporary farmhouse with sauna and a great selection of books on a private 700 hectare property outside Borgarnes on the way to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Approached via a two kilometre private road - this is as secluded a place as you can find. You will cancel your plans and not want to leave the house. The landscape is magnificent as are the views in all directions. Two small lakes are home to a variety of birds including a pair of eagles who visit in late summer and throughout winter.

Háafell Lodge

Welcome to Háafell Farm where we raise sheep, keep horses and have one friendly dog. Our private guest house is located 200 meters above the farm, up the mountain at 130 meters above sea level. It is a recently built (2020), 100 square meter, modern “turf house style” house. Háafell means “The High Mountain” and has a long river that cascades down its side with several tiers of waterfalls. It is a five minute walk to our canyon and it is possible to take a cold bath in one of the waterfalls.

The cottage is luxurious and has an outdoor natural water hot tub from where you can enjoy the Northern Lights or the fantastic sunset. The living area and the balcony have a spectacular view overlooking the fjord and surrounding mountains. The cottage is a great base for day tours in the south or west of Iceland. Gullfoss, Geysir, Thingvellir and Snæfells glacier are all within 1-2 hours’ drive.
