Te Whare o Kea is a non profit social enterprise and supports kea and kiwi conservation work. It provides simple shelter for trampers, bikers and other nature lovers. Spectacular sunrises and night skies also make it the perfect location for a retreat. Since opening in 2020, Te Whare o Kea is a Gold Kea Sponsor, donating over $20,000 to the Kea Conservation Trust, supporting the monitoring of kea nest sites in the Cobb Valley and a 17 trap trapline and trail camera. Cozy Paparoa Hut

Hideaway in this charming hut just moments away from the Punakaiki lagoon and beach, we have turned the hut into a basic option for guests on a budget but wanting their own space with a funky vibe. No sea view. (please book one of our other cottages if you want a sea view and private outside area.) Paparoa Hut is next to Paparoa Cottage, located at road level at the bottom of our drive. Swim in the Punakaiki lagoon, walk to Pancake rocks 450m and to nearby walks of Paparoa National Park.

It has been transformed into a very cosy, comfortable cottage with all the comforts of home. You will be surrounded by the Paparoa Ranges, our own native bush and the song of the birds. Whether you are visiting the coast for the walking and mountain bike tracks or just to escape life, this is the place to relax.

Sunset Bach

It is a Bach, which is a small modest holiday home. Great location, beach opposite. Hosts live on site. Nearest places is Punakaiki or Charleston, either one, a 15 minute drive. Fox River is 5 minutes away, (4.5 km), where each Sunday, over the summer, there is a local market day, crafts, food etc. We now have cell phone coverage. We now have all new floor coverings, carpet and vinyl. Also a new electric stove installed.
