Cabana do Xisto

O Cabana do Xisto is a lovingly restored cottage, traditionally made with local stone, keeping it cool in the Summer and cosy in the Winter. The cottage, with a private entrance, sleeps 2-4 people, has an open plan lounge and dining area and boasts valley views. An outdoor dry toilet and luxury shower experience are a short walk and next door you find our in-house bakery where your delicious vegan breakfast is created. The surroundings, 'our backyard' is magnificent with little and bigger rivers, hilly roads for bike lovers and the GR38 and the Appalachian trail for the hikers. The Estrela is nearby. Three schist houses being restored at the village of Cunqueiros, in the municipality of Proença-a-Nova, form the Casas da Encosta project. Here it’s possible to relive the life history and culture of the region’s people in the comfort of a typical Portuguese village. According to the owner, Nuno Caldeira, the houses are being restored following the local construction tradition where schist, clay and wood are featured. One of them, Casa da Lagariça, has already opened.
