One of the finest and stone circles in the north of England, the circle has a diameter of about 350 feet, the second biggest in the country. Long Meg is the tallest of the 69 stones, about 12 feet high, with three mysterious symbols, its four corners facing the points of the compass and standing some 60 feet outside the circle.
The stones probably date from about 1500BC. Local folklore has given rise to the legend that a local witch called Long Meg and her daughters were turned into stone as a punishment for dancing on the Sabbath and if you count the number of stones twice the with and her daughters will come back to life.

A series of five chambers in the red sandstone cliff of River Eden, just north of Little Salkeld. They are named after Lieutentant-Colonel Samuel Lacy of Salkeld Hall, who commissioned their carving in the 18th Century.
