The fortress was first built in the 4th century AD, when it enclosed a Persian citadel, and it was extended over the century before being damaged by an explosion in the mid-19th century. Nowadays, two fortified sections remain and it it possible to hike to the top of both.

Georgia statue, located right next to Narikala Fortress welcoming visitors since 1958. The statue is a great example of Soviet art, a 20 meter-high aluminium image of a lady crowned with ivy, holding a cup of wine in one hand (for friends) and a sword in another (for enemies).
