Arts, culture and history

This is a fantastic introduction to New Zealand cultural and environmental history. Well worth a visit, for an hour or three! See traditional Maori waka, tools and models of fortified villages, as well as skeletons of the giant Moa, a volcano simulation, and early settler history and artefacts. New Zealand is a unique country with a history worth knowing.

Gardens

These two large greenhouses and outdoor fernery are a showcase of a stunning array of plants from New Zealand and across the world. It's right in the heart of the Domain, a huge public park in the center of Auckland, just 30 minutes walk from my apartment. Great day out in any weather, especially since it's warm year-round!

This is not only a stunning lookout over Auckland's harbour, it also has an important history, as this land was fought to be returned to Maori who had it taken unlawfully, creating a precedent for the colonial government to redress unlawful and unjust land confiscations or thefts that happened since colonisation began.
