Not really just a coffee shop -- it's iconic in our culture - from a stop for beignets and cafe au lait after a holiday mass at the St. Louis Cathedral or a lazy weekend strolling the French Quarter, or after a late night partying with friends, New Orleans goes to Cafe du Monde.

New York style pizzas, pastas, salads, and desserts with a frequently changing menu and day-to-day specialties pies. Beer on draft. Voted #1 Pizza in New Orleans, Best Pizza in New Orleans, & Restaurant of the Year. Consequently, it is known to get very busy nowadays and there is limited indoor/outdoor seating. As conveyed to me by one of my New York friends: "This is the best thing I've put in my mouth." Just a short walk from the house.

Be sure to order the ribs and the macaroni and cheese. I could eat their macaroni and cheese every day! If you are all eating ribs, sometimes it's cheaper to order a dozen and split them 2-3 ways than to have 2-3 people order separately. It's a good stop for lunch or dinner. Closed on Mondays.

The Country Club New Orleans is located in a historic Italianate Raised Center Hall Cottage and is most known for its $15 bottomless mimosas at brunch, its bar and lounge surrounding the saltwater pool, and its predominantly LGBTQ staff and customers. Every Saturday it is home to "drag brunch." The food can be described as "contemporary southern" and is also quite outstanding. The pool is a great place to cool off, and while no membership is required, it does cost additional money to enter the back pool area.

More than 100 years old, and famed for its sprightly teal color and striped awnings, this historic restaurant defined (and continues to define) what “first-class service” means. Dining on Creole- and Louisiana-inspired cuisine with no fewer than three servers at your side, you’ll feel like a queen (or a king) when you’re dining here. Pro tip: Don’t miss the 25-cent three-martini lunch! Business attire is required.

Located on the Mississippi River adjacent to the French Quarter Audubon Aquarium of the Americas immerses you in an underwater world. The colors of a Caribbean reef come alive in our walk-through tunnel, while our penguins and Southern sea otter enchant you with their antics. Touch a sting ray, feed a parakeet, and marvel at our gigantic sharks, tarpon, and rays in the 400,000 gallon Gulf of Mexico Exhibit. Watch for sea turtles throughout the Aquarium—as coordinator of the Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program, we prepare many of them for release to the wild. Hours Mon - Sun | 10am - 5pm

Horse races from Thanksgiving day through mid April; budget friendly in that it is cheap to get in (also they don't charge after a certain time) And, if you do want to bet on the horses, you can bet as little as 1 or 2 bucks. Site of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival for 2 weekends at the end of April and beginning May.
