Food scene

This is the best Peruvian restaurant in Portland, and it's literally right across Lombard from us. It's family-run and owned, so they know how to really awesome traditional dishes like the ceviche carretillero, lomo saltado or aji de gallina. They also have a more contemporary take on the causa, which is also great. Open dinners Tuesday-Saturday and brunch on Sunday. Reservations for dinner are recommended.

Cuisine from southern Thailand, which has heavy Malaysian influences. Signature combo here is the number 5—fried chicken (gluten-free), roti bread, curry, sticky rice, and pickles. Their specials are awesome too. There are two locations, one closer to us on Killingsworth in the Alberta Arts District, as well as a brand new location in SE near lots of bars and other restaurants that's a 10-minute drive on the freeway.

Indian-American food cart on Mississippi Ave in a pod next to a German beer hall. You can bring the food into the beer hall (Prost), or buy beer to bring into the food cart pod. Love the platters, and they have paleo, gluten-free, and vegan options.

The tamales of course are great, but there are lots of other options, especially during brunch. There's a location about a 7 minute bus ride to Dekum that's right next to Hi-Wheel Fizzy Wine Co and a bar called Tough Luck.

This restaurant will change any preconceived notions of Russian and Eastern European food. If you plan to make an experience out of it, I recommend the Ruskie Zakuskie experience. Add a few hot items and vodka to share. Nasdarovje!

Smaller sibling restaurant to Kachka, serving Russian standbys like pelmenis (dumplings), but also crazier pub fare like the Vladimir Poutine.

Neighborhoods

One of the closest and most vibrant streets near us. It's only a 5-10 minute ride on the Line 4 bus that stops in front of our home. Lots of great bars, restaurants, food carts, cafes, and shops.

This is one of the closest and most vibrant streets near us, but is more difficult to access by transit due to the need for a bus transfer. More great restaurants, bars, cafes, and shops.
