Munich has a simply brilliant public transport system. Example: 2 people, 2 days, all modes of transport plus discounts to many sights: 22 Euro.
Alternatively, if you stay longer:
If you guys travel a bit in Germany using trains, it might be worth while getting a so called 49 euro/all Germany ticket.
Downside is you cannot use ICE fast trains....however it covers any and all public travel within all German cities.
In Munich a 1 week pass is the cheapest option for you, IF you do NOT have a 49 Euro ticket.
This is 21 Euros per person and can be purchased at machines once you arrive. Chose M-zone, covering most of central Munich. The outer areas are more expencive, notably, the airport! There are also passes for 1 - 5 days available. )

Would you like to take a trip to see Bavarian king Ludwig´s most beautiful castle? Only 2 hrs by bus from Munich, set in an amazing area - Disneyland castle was fashioned after this timeless castle.
You can organize the trip yourself, take a train, then bus to the castle. If you do so, make sure you pre-book a ticket online - avoid standing in line for hours.
However, we strongly recommend to take one of the tour busses there.
You start in central Munich, get taken directly to the castle and if you book with the right operator, your ticket is either included or you get at least a pre-booked ticket to avoid standing in line.
Typically a day trip takes about 10 - 11 hrs to the castle and back.
DO NOT MISS a short walk behind the castle up the hill to where the hanging bridge is - sensational photo spot of the castle with lovely lake in the background.

Individual travel made simple. FLIXBUS operates daily busses, departing in the morning, returning in the evening from MAIN STATION. Prices vary, according how bussy they are - book online from as little as 15 Euro per person return. It drops you right at the bottom of the castle.
Trains (several a day) also go there, however, you need to take a bus from the train station in FÜSSEN, where it drops you, to the castle.
It is probably the cheapest way to get there, as up to 5 people can use 1 ticket from DB German Railway - travelling as a group it only costs 69 Euros. If 2 people travel, it is 39 Euros for both. Get more information on: BAYERNTICKET
