Cars are best, but there are buses and trains too!
There are lots of readily available Uber, Lyft and Taxi services in the area. LIRR and MTA websites will inform on how to take trains to and from Manhattan. Suffolk County Transit website will provide information for buses. I am unable to send links for these pages here but they are easy to search by name.
