Pico do Areeiro, at 1,818 m high, is Madeira Island's third highest peak. From the top, visitors can look down on the clouds on most days. The air is fresh and clear and the sun is very bright. On a clear day it is possible to see the neighboring island of Porto Santo, 48 km to the northeast.

Bring comfy shoes as there many walk trails. Bring wind jacket as evenings can get cool sometimes even in summer. Sun can get hot even though temperatures seem lower than Europe so pack sunscreen for the summer months
