This cozy spot has a lovely laid back atmosphere where you could eat delicious food and drink from the excellent wine & craft beer selection while watching the extrinsic Melville people go by. The pork belly is superb. Also a great place to try traditional South African foods cooked with flair as the menu has a traveller's section. Excellent service too and really reasonably priced.

Amazing spot with a rich selection of traditional South African cuisine. The location is perfect for getting a feel for Johannesburg city life. This restaurant embodies South African cuisine in such a delicately respectful way, that I would recommend this to anyone - including the locals. Decently priced & fantastic value for money!

The perfect vibe for a long dinner and a must during your stay in Maboneng. You should have meat, but the tapas are also great. They have good wine and the ambience is just right.

Drinks & Nightlife

The Marabi Club is the home of superb food and drink accompanied by fine live jazz performances. Visible from the street only by the discreet black canopy above a small metal door in Doornfontein, downtown Johannesburg, the Marabi Club harks back to a vibrant history. New York gave the world the Harlem Rennaisance, a flourishing black cultural and intellectual movement that saw an outpouring of artistic, literary and musical talent. Across the ocean Johannesburg’s Doornfontein’s slumyards, created in the wake of one of the world’s richest gold rushes, gave life to Marabi.

There isn’t a night time venue in Joburg that offers quite what Katzy’s does – a place to be seen, and which has resident bands performing five nights a week, the Grillhouse menu, a stellar wine, cocktail and cigar list, and more than 100 different whiskeys, fine cognacs and bourbons to choose from. The newly enlarged Katzy’s, which has a wraparound garden and outdoor area, now caters for lunch. Purpose built as a sophisticated music venue, Katzy’s has the latest stage, sound and audiovisual equipment. The programme includes an exciting line-up of the best local and international artists.

Melville’s 7th Street used to be a mixture of seedy bars and a few, great restaurants muddled between second hand stores and coffee shops, but it’s fast evolving. It’s becoming more retro and populated with a cool new set of restaurants that are hell-bent on making 7th Street a real restaurant destination.
